New Bond Movie

used to hate Bond films…don’t think i ever actually mananged to watch a full one…unitl Casino Royale which i thought was brilliant…Craig moved away from the previous Bonds who were uppercrust English ā€˜cheeky chappys’ with sparkling teeth…this Bond is a bit more cold and ruthless…more like what i’d imagine an secret agent to be like…

I love Bond; have all the books all the movies and loads of other shite.

While its one of those franchises that everyone has an opinion on; it is also a franchise that appeals to all generations. I love the locations, the glamour, the cars, the knick knacks; even the campness. But I don’t really how or when my affair with James Bond started. But Sean Connery might have had something to do with it.

Someone told me once its because Ian Fleming would have hated my very existence; and the notion that a gobby lefty female might remark or critize his body of work would have sent him into another mysogonist stupor.

Dame M would have had the snobby drunken fucker on sucide watch; and is IMO; the greatest piece of casting since Broccoli shook the knobs hand.

I’m aghast to see Dalton getting three votes here; not only was he the worst 007 the movies were equally bad. There is better production sets and scripts in 1970’s porn.

For me the Meath Knacker Pierce Brosnan was the best; I have a loyalty to Connery but there is a tendacy to pisstake in his Bond roles that Pierce Brosnan rose above. And Brosnan did look better than any of them in a tux.

But I just can’t get Craig; I have watched Casino Royale a half a dozen times and he still doesn’t work for me. He’s trying to be a dog rough and raw Connery but with Brosnan’s competent macho slickness.

I hope the car chase is good.

What do I love most about Bond movies?
The cheering in the picture house.

There was no cheering in Wexford after Quantum!

Good point NCC. Anything that glorifies m15/m16 should be ridiculed. Apart from that I just don’t get the whole fascination with it. Would have been frowned upon in my house to like Bond I imagine and for that I can only be thankful. Heard a debate about lack of gadgets and one liners in this movie. Bizzare stuff.

during the car chase in Die another Day; I could have sworn I was in Thurles. Even the booing at Madonna’s fucking crap song.

Saw it on Saturday. I liked it.
It’s ditched the whacky on-liners and the fact that Bond would never get a cut or bruise or have a hair out of place.
These new bond movies have Bond cut and bruised full time.
For that reason it very much resembles Jason Bourne.
The the plot is not great but has brilliant extended action sequences.
Ina way it’s like Mission Impossible 3.
Then again MI1 was better than 2 or 3.

What I did miss was the 5 minutes of every bond film where ā€˜Q’ shows all the new gadgets and Bond gets to use them all in interesting circumstances.

Overall, it’s not a waste of money to go to this, but it’s not like the Bonds we grew up with.

Also, bond girls. 1 is a cracker and the other is ??? (I look better myself with the lippy on)

Yours in reviews,
GSH.

From Russia With Love on here… Not one of the classics but ideal Sunday evening entertainment.

The Russian accents on Goldeneye. :grinning:

Izabella Scorupco is just lovely.

Ana de Armas is new Bond girl

Maybe James will just have an op to become female … that would be most woke

The living daylights on ITV4. The much maligned Timothy Dalton was an excellent Bond.
