how much money would be saved now by renegotiating all rent paid by the DSFA and dropping the phone allowance?

i thought the figure didnt really add up. to get 1.4bn you’d nearly want to be taxing at a euro a text. couldnt understand where the figure came from. didnt hear her on newstalk, but as you say dan, nitpicking at a slight difference in figures should be made here.

I think that she actually thought in her head “Hmmm, we send 1.4 billion texts, so if I tax that at 1c a text, then that’s 1.4 billion, Eureka!”

a taxi driver actually told me all of that last night, i wasn’t aware the smoke break was in AM though, glad to be back in the loop

Thats over 70 hours per year per person. Whats the average hourly rate of a CS? If you cut it out you’re saving the country money while improving their health thus saving the health service money.

it would have required 140bn texts. My calculator wont do that sum for me but thats a shit load of texts per head of capita!

Jesus Christ, adding more VAT to phone bills are you mad, if anything the entire upper VAT rate should be brought down to entice shoppers to stay with Irish companies in the Republic. At least Britain had the sense to bring the VAT rate down.

Think we’ve missed the boat on that one. The time to decrease VAT was at the last budget but the government weren’t brave enough to increase top tax and decrease VAT which was the sensible way to increase confidence in spending but increase revenue also.

Can’t really be seen to reduce VAT now with the situation we’re in but if we’d done it already we could keep it at a lower rate. Complete lack of planning has cost us really.
