New Competition

New competition but the same old prize - 21 Euro voucher for TFK merchandise to be used at your leisure.

Competition format is the same. Send me a [url=http://www.thefreekick.com/index.php?option=com_jim&page=new&id=therock67&title=Competition]PM with your selections for the matches below (European qualifiers and one European friendly). I just want the outcome of each game, not the exact scoreline - so home win, draw, away win will suffice.

Then as a tiebreak also include the exact score in the Ireland v Germany match and the first goalscorer. This will only be used in a tiebreak situation.

Also note that there is a fixture at 14:00 on Saturday so entries have to be received before then to be valid.

Fixtures are:

Azerbaijan v Portugal, A, 17:00
Belarus v Luxembourg, G, 16:00

International Match
Switzerland v Austria, 19:30

I’m going to enter this competition but purely to retain my ‘prediction sharpness’. As a moderator I won’t be accepting the price even though I should win handily enough.

As an aside I really, really hate international football weeks. Celtic have just beaten two of the best sides in Europe back-to-back with last minute Scott McDonald goals, we’re building up huge momentum and then it’s stalled because of this rubbish.

All these debates on whether little Mickey Owen should risk his damaged groin in these games, what Big Sam Allardyce thinks of the whole situation, news on the ‘lion-hearted’ John Terry’s cheekbone, what ex-Chelsea and England great Ray ‘Butch’ Wilkins thinks of the whole situation, whether Paul Robinson’s slump is terminal, what ex-England 'keeper Nigel Martyn thinks of the whole situation are severely wrecking my head. Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaagggggggggggghhhhhhhhhh.

It doesn’t help of course that Ireland are truly abysmal these days. I see Stan had to call up Andy O’Brien to the squad yesterday because O’Shea’s injured now. He’s only lucky that didn’t happen 5 minutes into the Germany game. Fool.

True Rocko. The shambles under Staunton doesn’t do much to add to my enthusiasm for international football but even when the Irish team was doing well I was never an avid supporter of them.

I go to a lot of the home games and I think we deserve better than the current incompetent who’s in charge of the side but I can’t think of an Irish result that I was upset about for some time afterwards.

I generally watch the game, get mildly angry and frustrated at the performance and result and then move on straight away. On the other hand there’s been club football results and Wexford games where I’ve been gutted for days afterwards.

My conclusion: International football is gash and it disrupts the club season. All international football should be played in the summer, in the form of short, 14-17 day qualification tournaments (split over two summers so Ireland would play 4/5 games in May 2007 and the 4/5 remaining qualifying games in May 2008 to qualify for Euro 2008) and then the tournaments themselves in June 2008.

36 hours or so left to enter this competition.

Entry in, I’m not too confident as there are a few tricky ones there. I bet on Germany to win so I had to go with that in this too.

You forgot the tiebreak Flango.

Really

I dont care who knows it, Ireland 0 - 2 Germany

…and Doppelganger to score first. I dont know any german players, half the team is out, what if I choose a non runner

Kuranyi to score first…

I just pm’d rocko the winning entry.

Did you steal the sports almanac off Marty McFly?

Right

We have a tie in this competition between two forum members. Neither of them was correct with the tiebreaker quesion (scoreline or general outcome or first scorer) so without saying who was involved how do ye want to solve it?

Options are:

  1. nobody wins and we go again next week (EPL, SPL and Eircom League) with everyone back involved
  2. only those who tied for the top do the competition next week
  3. anything else ye can come up with.

I’m not saying who shared the top position (might have been more than two) so it doesn’t influence how ye decide on what the fairest decision is.

We all go again next week.

A fight to the death…

Drinking Competition…

A karaoke competition(singstar around my place )…

A penalty shootout…

Seriously though, lets just go again for Wednesdays games.

I assume I’m involved in the tie. It’s shameful really to be only tieing with you other misfits so I demand all of us go again next week.

Sorry I forgot there were Wednesday fixtures. I’ll wait to hear from a couple more before deciding one way or the other but it looks like we’ll just go with Wednesday’s internationals. Fixtures are:

Albania v Bulgaria, G, 19:45
Azerbaijan v Serbia, A, 17:00
Belgium v Armenia, A, 19:45
Bosnia-Herzegovina v Norway, C, 19:30
Denmark v Latvia, F, 19:00
FYR Macedonia v Andorra, E, 19:00
France v Lithuania, B, 20:00
Georgia v Scotland, B, 18:00
Germany v Czech Republic, D, 19:45
Holland v Slovenia, G, 19:30
Kazakhstan v Portugal, A, 15:00
Liechtenstein v Iceland, F, 19:00
Luxembourg v Romania, G, 19:15
Malta v Moldova, C, 18:30
Rep of Ireland v Cyprus, D, 19:30
Russia v England, E, 16:00
San Marino v Wales, D, 19:15
Sweden v Northern Ireland, F, 19:30
Turkey v Greece, C, 18:30
Ukraine v Faroe Islands, B, 17:00

Austria v Ivory Coast, 19:30
Estonia v Montenegro, 15:00
Finland v Spain, 18:30
Italy v South Africa, 19:50
Japan v Egypt, 11:30
Morocco v Namibia, 19:00
Poland v Hungary, 17:00
Switzerland v USA, 19:30

Same tiebreak - Ireland v Cyprus. Scoreline and first goalscorer.

The Wednesday matches seem a good idea.

I reckon it’s unfair for those who finished below the others to get back into the competition. I think the winners (if there are only 2) should be private messaged by you and asked to nominate either paper, scissors, or rock67, 3 times in a row.

E.g. I might submit the following:

  1. rock67
  2. scissors
  3. scissors

You can then play the two entries against each other and see who wins.

Seems fair Clarkey but we can’t wait all day and God knows when everyone will be back online.

Decided that the rules of the competition are that everyone is back involved for Wednesday. And that will continue to be the rule in the event of a tie. It just rolls over to the next competition.

Not fair imo. Strongish chance there’ll be a few rollovers in which case people will lose interest. Can you manage anything can ya?
