News stories that people should probably care about but in reality don't give a shit about

So there’s no homeless people begging in New York, Washington, Berlin, Paris, London?

Agreed. The Africans should look to us as a shining light as to what can be achieved.

Would you ever fuck off.

Glas still sees us as part of the empire

It’s always the west/whitey’s fault…he thinks he is a black lad from all that rap he listens to… The world has always been shit or be shit on.

There is, but none of those countries are in the upper echelons

Right-wing people are certainly the more tolerant, mate.

Newspapers and media organisations widely running with this photograph of a 3 year old boy who drowned and washed up on a beach in Turkey as his family tried to get into Greece.

Right-wing politicians seem to be quite tolerant of this sort of thing, proving my previous post correct.

It is an absolute scandal Sid, doesn’t matter if it is left or right. A shameful episode for the whole of Europe. It may not be the cool or edgy thing to say but the whole thing just sickens me.

This article pretty well nails it in the Daily Telegraph today about Britain’s (non) response

I think there’s a problem calling it a “migrant crisis” when it would be much more helpful to call it the “Syrian refugee crisis”. I think mixing up Syrian refugees with your average Nigerian who is primarily motivated by money/ general standard of living confuses the public and doesn’t help the Syrians’ argument.

I should say that I don’t have a big personal issue or grudge with the Nigerians, my cousins went to Australia looking for work/ better standard of living, I’m just saying the Syrian situation is different, they shouldn’t be lumped together.

In Northern/Western Africa there are so many people that we could never take enough, they’d fucking all come here if they could but in Syria there’s a set finite number of people who’ve been fucked. North/West Africa could never be solved through migration but Syria theoretically could.

I’ve another photo I put on my Facebook afew days ago of a Syrian woman and baby floating in the water but I’m not sure how to upload it

This image is saddest thing I’ve ever seen in a newspaper. Sad and wrong.

Agreed. Shameful.

Hopefully it prompts some action. The image makes me sick. @Bandage just retweeted something with the last image of the little fella alive. Sad that its had to get to this for people to take notice.

And you know what, in a day or a week, joe Duffy will move on, and this will become a non- story again.
There are many strands to this issue. Many strands.

Not sure what your point is here posting in this thread though separates you as a cunt.

This is shocking, no 2 ways about it.

True but that then becomes a cop out for everybody.

what kind of strands flatty?

And whilst it may be off Joe Duffy and the generic types who will like and share and say prayers for the angles, this problem will not go away, and it wont be a non story for a long time yet. As stated already, the image Sid posted has finally clicked with a lot that this problem is far worse than every imagined, and is only getting worse. And it wont go away until some sort of action is taken by Europe as a whole, and the countries within it to take personal action.

You are correct it it sad that it happened. It is wrong that it happened. It was not wrong to publish the picture. It is ironic that we have a holcost denial thread just as this is happening. The pictures being transmitted at the moment while not quite as graphic are just as shocking as what was found when the Allies freed the death camps.
The one difference being is that its not too late to do something about it

There was a lady on Joe Duffy earlier taking about how we need to take in more people and she’d like to adopt a family and they could stay in the Parish hall and she’d all sorts of harmless good-spirited comments to make on how we could help out. And just as I was cheered by the human spirit she ended by saying “of course only if they promise to go back to their own countries when the conflict is over.” Straight back to despair.
