English Football is like a Norwegian trawler out in the ocean now. Sure they’ll miss the odd Bruno Fernandez but I think it’s a market that they’re going to need to learn to find value in as so much of the top talent winds up there now.
If you’re set on going elsewhere, look at the Calvin Basset types, physical, pedigree, well schooled, he has the chance to be good.
Nygren is absolutely useless. He’s one of those players where the eye test overwhelmingly trumps DATA. It’s probably why nobody else was in for him, despite having 6 months on his contract with the Danish side & being available for less than €2mn. I think he’s Celtic’s top scorer this season & has a few assists as well. But he’s really, really shit. His first half display against Hearts in Nancy’s first game was beyond appalling. The amount of times he’s given the ball in dangerous areas but fails to slip in the easy pass & loses it cheaply is off the charts. He’ll literally ignore someone outside him who’ll have a clear run in on goal & decide to go back into traffic, & he does it all the time. He can actually ghost into good areas & score on occasion, despite the lack of awareness, athleticism, speed & brutal decision making. He’s also weak, soft & has no defensive instincts - hence his role as a kind of attacking mid. In theory Nancy’s 3-4-2-1 should suit him to play in the 2 behind a striker but, as I said, he’s shit & gutless.

Rangers sacking Van Bronckhorst was a mistake. They’ve gone from shambles to shambles since then.
It was mainly his attitude and lack of ability that had the Rangers fans turn against him, and he had absolutely no pace. He was on a free during the summer and got a move to some team in mid table in Turkey.
He’s something but doesn’t have the physicality to impose himself in a physical, rough and tumble league.
His technique while aesthetically pleasing, isn’t reliable and consistently repeatable. He’s like an ATP player with a nice looking backhand, but then you see all the points he loses on it or Adam Scott in golf. He’s also very one-footed.
I’m convinced Brighton have some kind of technology that maps angles opened or closed by the first touch. If Hearts have their shit, they could be dangerous.
That aesthetically pleasing powder puff tennis player comparison is a good one. The eye test was mentioned and he actually passes it. The first time I saw him play was against Qarabag or whatever that Kazakhstan team were called, Kairat or something, after I started watching after 71 minutes. He ran inside and set up a really good chance which got butchered by somebody. He looked like a lad that had something in his locker.
It is possible that something in his locker could be similar to what was in Lionel Hutz’s briefcase when it accidentally fell open.
I’d give him some credit for saying his movement into the box and into shooting positions in general is very good. It happens often enough that it’s not accidental. And others could learn from him in timing their runs into the box (eg Engels, Hatate)
However it’s all a bit pointless for Nygren if he can’t control or ball or can’t time a pass. He’s lost the ball so often in just bouncing off him or delaying a pass or playing the wrong pass or executing the pass so badly. And no system or formation can tolerate that.
I think all three managers this season have started with him in their first game. And all three have then dropped him when he can’t execute the basics. (Kind of like Johnny Kenny actually who forces himself into the team until he’s required in open play and then he’s returned quickly to the bench).
