Yeah sure that’s the point - he doesn’t have the players available to play that way & nor does he have the time to train it as they’re playing every 3 days. There’s a 8.7% chance things will come right quicker than anyone thinks, even if there’s still some more bad results in the short term, & they sign players early in January that accelerate it. But more likely he’s watching on from afar come February (or earlier).
There is never a good time, but with the team going well and Hearts and the cup final coming up he probably should have held off on the fundamental restructuring of the team.
And that’s leaving aside the fact that he hasn’t the players to play what he wants

It should be lads from established Northern European leagues who ideally would’ve come through the academy of a major team. Loan or transfer. Costs money though obviously.
Early to mid twenties guys with pedigree and upside, no more Japanese school children or Scandinavians that move like they’ve a rod up their hole.
Guiu and Acheampong from Chelsea on loan. Harry Wilson, Gavin Bazunu. Maybe even an old vet like James Ward Prowse.
Desmond should put his hand in his pocket and enquire about Son or someone of that level in the short term. Give the thing a boost.
They should do this irrespective of who is over the team. People will have seen that qualifier against the Kazaks, the club lost a lot of face.

You’re half joking but all that to me is way overstated and you can’t really judge it until they’re there. They need good athletes that are technically proficient. They’ve signed so many guys that after 15 minutes of watching them, you’d know they can’t succeed at Celtic due to either lack of ball mastery or lacking in athleticism. The new winger, the black kid, case in point.

You can go and get Wilson out of Fulham now for 7 or 8 million as his contract is expiring, he’ll be a big earner, but he’ll probably be Scottish Player of the Year next season if you manage to get him. They need to pull it together and go back to signing some established players.
Leave it till the summer, they won’t get him. He’ll be off on a free somewhere for more money.
You’re talking about getting lads from Chelsea in on loan. I mentioned Dean Smith yesterday and the prospect of him bringing John Terry with him if he was appointed.
Lads from Chelsea might go to Celtic if a respected Premier League manager was in charge and especially if John Terry was assistant manager. When Rangers got Steven Gerrard they weren’t signing Steven Gerrard for his football smarts, they were signing him because they knew players would be attracted by Steven Gerrard’s name. And because Steven Gerrard had connections.
Names and connections matter.

I don’t think Gerrard attracted (m)any big names to Glasgow. His signings from England in particular were mostly duds.

I liked the post because I agree with you. They’ve been living on a curve ball for years and it catches up eventually. It’s not cheap, it costs money, but they have it and it will work.
If they are bringing guys from nowhere, you need to be seeing physiques like Van Dijk and Wanyama, at least then there is a chance of success. That clunky, one-footed, one-paced, long streak,nygren fella will never be a player.
John Terry set up for Reece James to go up to Celtic for a year when he was very young and they turned it down because they didn’t want to pay a young fella what he was on. Reece James.

That’s pretty much the exact opposite of the strategy I think Celtic should adopt. Paying over the odds for average or substandard talent from England is a recipe for financial and footballing disaster.
Some lad kicking about reserves football in England. That’s what the Huns have been trying for years and tried again this summer. And it doesn’t work.

I’d see about Jose Mourinho in the summer. I think he’d fancy it and they’d have to put in money.
I think you’re idea is a bit outdated. The depth in these premier league academies is outrageous. The present strategy has gotten them to the point where there is not one good player. Morgan Rogers left City for about a million pounds. Troy Parrot was there for anybody. That’s just two off the top of my head.
Pedigree. The likes of Chelsea, City, Liverpool, Palace and Arsenal are churning out unbelievable players. If you’re in there, in the first place, you’re good. It’s on their doorstep.

It’s not about getting big names, it’s about using connections to get lads for a year or two who probably otherwise wouldn’t go.
Gerrard did get Jon Flanagan and Jermain Defoe who probably wouldn’t have otherwise gone but more to the point he got lads like Connor Goldson, Ianis Hagi and Calvin Bassey.
His brief was to stop Celtic doing 10 in a row and he did that.
Having a big name on the coaching staff I think makes Celtic a more attractive proposition when you’re trying to get players around the level of Patrick Roberts or Matt O’Riley from English clubs.

That’s kinda two different things.
The great Lawwell footballing family developed a link with City Football Group & Celtic actually signed some young talent like Frimpong & others that did well & were sold on at a profit. You might be able to get these youngsters whether permanently or on loan - they actually have Jahmai Simpson-Pusey rotting away in the reserves at the moment. He’s on loan from Manchester City.
But that’s not really the same as signing Harry Wilson or some EPL fella who’s late 20s for £10mn odd & who’s looking for 60k a week & to comfortably become top club earner.

It’s probably somewhere in the middle. A good player’s a good player but they need to stop bringing in these guys that can’t succeed from the outset based on their body mechanics and or or ball control.
I think they need to spend some money, proper money.
Nygren to me seems like a fella who would be best suited in the role Callum McGregor is in, but McGregor is already there to do that.
