Next Manchester United Manager

He won 38 trophies with them.

Decent record I suppose.

Jose wants out though and they want Jose out.

Arise Sir Martin, your time has come

Only the 3 in Europe though. Would have to be disappointed with that.

I’d like someone like Klopp but think it’ll take a big arrogant arsehole to ignore the fact that Ferguson is still hanging around after he leaves. Cue Jose and the champions league and disrespecting everyone and making Liverpool fans hate Utd more and more…

Huge poisoned chalice for whoever does take over. Would be very surprised if they went for someone like Moyes, they need a big name and a proven winner. Will be an interesting summer ahead

Stan must be in the frame?

Ding Dong the big prick is gone.

I think Untied are going to go through a few seasons of instability now that Ferguson is gone. It will now be easy for the club to sack managers if they want too. Also there is going to be Ferguson sniping away in the background as well.

I have a feeling it will be Moyes that gets the job with Ferguson assisting him in the background, similar to the Staunton/Robson scenario that we had. :frowning:

Apparently Paddy Crerand was going nuts on Newstalk an hour ago saying there was absolutely no substance to the story.

He’s coming back on air shortly.

United repeating the exact same mistake as they did with Busby by leaving Ferguson on board. I would imagine any big name manager would not take the position with him still there which makes the Moyes rumour a lot more plausible. Be interesting to see how close the next United manager gets to City and Chelsea next season with a central midfield of Carrick and Giggs.

It will be interesting to see if the next manager will last the season.

Fair play Fergie. Fucking legend. 13 leagues in 20 years. A shitload of other trophies. More importantly, he manufactured enough bile in Liverpool to poisin a small country.
I look forward to numerous features and documentaries detailing the great matches of his tenure.

Not sure why Steve Kean has been left off that list - his similar accent would make the transition smoother for the Johnny Foreigner types at the club.

His new role is only ambassadorial so don’t think it will necessarily put other managers off but trying to emulate his domestic achievements might.

Dunphy was on the radio this morning (RTÉ are bizarrely have this as their main story now) and said that the team is in great shape with great youngsters coming through. Is that the consensus here? Jones is reasaonable enough, Cleverly is average, Wellbeck somewhere between the two. Who else do they have breaking through into the first team?
If you compared their squad man-to-man with Man City or Chelsea they don’t have as strong a team I don’t think. They’re an advert for stability and a proven system and a manager who knows how to beat everyone else domestically. Without wanting to be unfair to him when he’s retiring (and I know he’ll be reading here later) I think the strongest attribute of his teams in recent years is their ability to consistently beat the weaker teams in the EPL.

A sad indictment of his legacy that your words focus on how he outsmarted his Lancashire rivals (who in truth outsmarted themselves) and not a celebration of his epic tactical battles with Guardiola or Heynckes on the European stage.

+1

It’s pathetic, they’re obsessed.

Anyone but Moyes. I wonder could United get Rafa?

Not really. It was an echo of one of his most famous pronouncements and was a comment for the liverpool fans here who have spent the last while focusing solely on his european achievements as opposed to his domestic. When Fergie started it was all about the 18 titles, now it’s about europe apparently.

He was labeled the greatest manager to have graced England, his poor European record was merely pointed out, and rightly so. No more.

Is there still bad blood between Rooney and Moyes?

Fergies fav interviewer Geoff Shreaves on Sky now discussing it. Poor Geoff.
