Non Matchday Celtic Discussion 2013/14

Good news overall I guess. Ledley being available is crucial to our current setup, particularly with Brown suspended for Europe. Ambrose to right back against Hibs so? Can’t afford to have Lustig and Matthews both missing for Ajax.

Rumours that Samaras got his hair cut on international duty were unfounded:

“If I ever decide to cut my hair I will have a statement first on the Celtic website to inform supporters.”

Thank fuck for that.

@Rocko , do i have permission to join this non matchday discussion?

im still awaiting an answer here, i have a good contribution to make regarding the private life of a player’s father

Our night spent in paradise at Parkhead

I fulfilled a long-standing ambition on Tuesday night when I sat in the stands to watch Celtic play a European game at Parkhead.
The experience against Ajax did not disappoint and it was one of the best atmospheres I have ever experienced. A lot used to be said about what Anfield was like on a European night but, as a player in those games, you don’t really hear the noise as you are concentrating so much.

At times on Tuesday, it felt like the ground was shaking, not least when it seemed as if 60,000 fans had started doing ‘the Poznan’. It was difficult to watch the game, as I kept looking around to take in everything.

The noise was deafening.

Leading Celtic to victory was another feather in Neil Lennon’s cap and, with every big result, it makes it inevitable that, one day, a club from the Premier League will make an offer for him.

When that happens Lennon will be faced with a big decision. The attraction of testing yourself in the Premier League is obvious but how easy would it be to walk away from experiences such as the one I was lucky enough to witness in midweek?

Those nights stay with you for ever and only a handful of clubs can come close to generating the same kind of noise and intensity that Celtic’s supporters produce when the floodlights are on and the stakes are at their highest.

A Glasgow derby tomorrow lunchtime at Firhill.

Neil Lennon said in yesterday’s press conference that Forrest (ankle) and Mulgrew (heel) are doubtful.

Commons only has a grade one hamstring strain and should be back next weekend ahead of the Ajax game. Boerrigter is due to return to training on Monday too.

Kayal had a thigh problem the other night but is available and Joe Ledley’s up to full speed again now too.

In other news, I see that 16/17 year old Ryan Gauld scored for Dundee United today. He looks like a special player - we should sign him and loan him back to them.

That was Georgios Samaras’ 50th league goal for Celtic yesterday. 70 goals in total in 235 appearances for the Athenian Fenian.

The gash on his knee required stitches but he should be okay for Amsterdam on Wednesday week. Izaguirre will be fine after his concussion too.

No midweek game this week suits us with the likes of Mulgrew, Kayal and Forrest nursing minor injuries.

Scott Brown will be attending the appeal against his 3-match Champions League ban in person later this week too. We might get it reduced by a game but I don’t think we’ll get him back for Ajax away.

Was worried Izzy might be out for a few weeks, he looked fucked yesterday.

I’m delighted to announce that Anthony Stokes has signed a new 3-year deal with Celtic.

That is tremendous news. Representing Ireland on 2 fronts for 3 1/2 more years.

Xavi speaking about Forster:

"I think the players all know abouthttp://cdncache1-a.akamaihd.net/items/it/img/arrow-10x10.png the Forster interest – and it is a player we know very well.

I can’t say that I watch him every week – but when we have played Celtic he has shown that he is a world-class goalkeeper.

From what I have seen he has everything to succeed at a club like Barcelona – and with his Champions League performances for Celtic I am sure there will be more than one big club interested in him."

Barca always start the tapping up process by having current players speaking in the media about targets.

I see Calum McGregor scored again for Notts County.

He’s been excellent in the Champions League but it’s hard to imagine a goalkeeper less suitable to their style. I can’t see them moving away from a keeper who’s comfortable with the ball at his feet.

McGeady linked with a return to Celtic in the papers today. That would be a smashing transfer for Celtic.

Is this on a free or pre-contract or was there a fee mentioned?

His contract is up at the end of the season. The reports were tentative at best but said Everton and Celtic are considering a January move after Spartak claimed that he would be available at the right price in January.

I heard something today about Celtic possibly playing a home champions league game in dublin?

There is no chance of that happening.

Celtic Park is being used for the Commonwealth Games.

So Celtic (if they hold off the challenge of Caley Thistle, Aberdeen, Motherwell et al and win the league) would need to play at least one, and possibly two, Champions League qualifier “home” games at another venue. Murrayfield is the favourite to be selected but Peter Lawwell said today that stadiums in Ireland and northern England were also under consideration.

It was also announced today that the Scottish Cup Final would be held at Celtic Park this season as Hampden Park is being renovated.
