My pal used drive that route every week from tuam anyway. He prefers headford-the neale-ballinrobe-cbar now. A lovely road as these things go.
Mayo has the best place names in Ireland he thinks.

On a recent drive from Westport to Limerick via the Castlebar road, i came across a few villages/townlands that seemed to have pretty unusual names. I can’t remember any specifics now though.

My pal.drove home via the top of the corrib there last week to avoid horsey horse SUV traffic. He happened through a town called aughagower. Well a tiny village really. He said it was a beautiful spot and worth a quick peep if I you happen to be near
