This is actually a decent point and this is why there was so much shouting and roaring about the tackling. World rugby have given the refs guidelines to deal with these type of tackles and anything that’s above the shoulder. Peyper just didn’t follow them
If they made a rule that there was no more tackling above hips would eliminate much of this overnight. And create a situation where the number of offloads would increase hugely. It could happen too
They have already more or less eliminated the chop tackle on safety grounds
Chop is as it sounds, when you take a player at the knees. Choke is when you and teammates swallow the ball carrier and prevent him from releasing the ball or going to ground.
No. The chop tackle was where you went in very hard very low at/below knee leading with your shoulder and no real attempt to use your arms. Potentially leg/knee breaker.
Was a trend for short while for fellas to dive in and try to take people off their feet like this but it was stamped out reasonably quickly. Seen plenty lads at lower levels trying it and coming off far the worst of it themselves
I reckon the reason the ref didn’t give out cartai bui or dearg was cos it was a friendly. They do it in the footie. Only a kickabout so let if flow. In hurling grudges are often settled/started in friendlies cos there will be no consequences.
