One positive is that it was the worst Kilkenny minor team I’ve ever seen. But Dublin should have beaten them by a lot more.
do you think Dublin might have overtrained for this Sid?..they looked very leggy and sluggish at times…
The amount of injuries throughout the spring would suggest so, but then again you can hardly afford to take it easy in the training and I’m not going to argue with Daly who knows a hell of a lot more than anybody on here about what is needed to compete at the top level. Maybe it’ll stand to them later on in the summer, but I doubt it at the moment. I think the psychological thing is the biggest of all as Dublin competed very well in the early stages but the wides and Keaney’s injury must have had a seriously disspiriting effect. It remeinded me a bit of Dublin dominating Tyrone early on in 2008 but blowing all their chances along with Alan Brogan going off injured, whereupon Tyrone proceeded to blitz them.
Just booked the first Monday in Sept off. Up limerick
I somehow doubt Limerick will be playing in the previous day’s second All-Ireland football semi-final, mate.
Someone over on kkcats is talking about Dublin being overtrained too. It makes more sense than anything else I can come up with. Kilkenny’s control of the ball in the wet was the most telling factor in the match. Dublin looked cumbersome when trying to control the ball and failed miserably to control their shooting.
He must have been reading from the Stephen Ward book of defending. Ward did exactly the same thing for Torres’ second goal V Ireland.
Hiney & Brady both got taken to the cleaners. They were both clearly lacking in match practice and fitness. To top it off Carton, Boland, Corcoran, McCaffrey and Durkin were brutal…Up front the forwards were blown out of it. Overtraining might have been some part of it but to be honest you couldnt excuse some of the mistakes and deficencies. Dalo will do well to have them recovered from this in a short timeframe and the draw is critical…
How many goals will Kilkenny score against a Galway defence that conceded 4 and 3 against Westmeath and Offaly respectively?
I’ll go for 8.
Galway will put up a much much better show than Dublin , but will still come up short . This is the best Galway side since 2005
They are, and IMHO Rushe could have more of a future around Donnybrook with the oval ball - his yardage and lay off from the break down were admrable tonight.
Much more concern however down Noreside is being devoted to how our minors have made an early exit from championship for a second year in a row, Dathi Regen will surely write of a “hurling crisis in Kilkenny”.
Interesting to see where both sides/players will be in 3/4 years time, take note note from KK 's obliteration of Wx U-21’s on Wednesday.
In short, increased participation levels up to minor level through squads, combined schools etc should see an increase in success to population dense counties ie. those with a big city plus hinterland - Dublin, Cork, Galway should therefore dominate future minor/tony forristal/nenagh co-op comps.
Tradition however and internal set ups at adult level will restore our more familiar rolls of honour!
What are current odds on Kilkenny doing the four in a row?
You’d have to ask Patrick for those specifically.
Looking down the road a bit. Huge levels of ifs and buts here. But it is worth noting what this Kilkenny team are playing for in terms of legacy.
I think Kilkenny matching the Kerry post-4 in a row with a 3 in a row would be a hugely remarkable achievement. Anything past that would cement this Kilkenny team as the greatest GAA team ever assembled.
That feat by Kerry is incredible. There is certainly an argument there to say that given the amount of players that took part in those wins that the Kerry post-4 in a row 3 in a row, that the latter is a greater achievement than the former. It’s very much chicken and egg stuff. But the 3 after the 4 is so much harder to do than a “normal” 3 given the miles on the clock and the injuries sustained in that time. Also, lads are getting older, getting married having kids and have more pressure on them to devote less time to the cause.
Of course that could all end in a couple of matches.
If Skehills in goal it could be double digits
I think Cork might have the Tipp puckouts figured out. I don’t think they’re going to be suckered into leaving as much space for the full-forward line to run onto them anyway.
Tipp need to be winning with something to spare if they have any aspirations of troubling kk
Cork to win by 5-6 points.
Fucks sake ref, that was handbags stuff
jamie coughlan is a lovely hurler…
Go on Cork.
