SENIOR championship winner Conal Devlin is one of seven new faces called into the Tyrone U20 panel for next month’s All-Ireland semi-final clash with Dublin.

The Dungannon youngster, who starred at corner-back in his club’s run to their first title in 64 years, is rewarded with a spot in the Red Hand side that plays the Leinster champions on Saturday, October 17.

Also called up to the Paul Devlin-managed side is Ardboe’s Oran Mulgrew (younger brother of senior star David), Mark Hayes, Oisin McCann (younger brother of Tiarnan and Conall) and John Rafferty (all Killyclogher), Eoghan Robinson (Errigal Ciaran) and Carrickmore centre half-forward Rory Donnelly.

Tyrone were originally scheduled to play Dublin on St Patrick’s Day and the squad trained on March 10 before all GAA activities were shut-down. Club action resumed after lockdown so six months had gone by before they met again earlier this month.

“You see big changes over six months in lads of 19 or 20 years old,” said assistant-manager Dermot Carlin.

Darragh Canavan is a major doubt with a fractured hand

How are counties shaping up for these competitions? Clare play Cork in the Munster minor championship in Cork on Sunday. Talented side on paper which won the Arrabawn title 2 years ago and should have half a dozen lads who would have played on last years minor side although one will be missing with injury. Fergal Lynch only had the one year as manager so hopefully the sweeper by default bullshit is no longer on view. Should be a nice hurling side. They beat Wexford comfortably enough 10 days or so ago in a challenge.

Under 20s should be a nice side as well although Aidan McCarthy who would probably be the main man on the team is a doubt with a broken finger. Play Tipp next Monday night in Thurles.

Limerick should have two solid sides, I’d be more hopeful of our minors who have a fair few of last year’s Munster winning team - Aidan O’Connor, Ethan Hurley, Adam English, Ronan Lyons the like.

A good few of Limerick’s 20s have been (or were) training with the seniors this year before COVID and will be back with them. Josh Considine and Gillane beag from the Well, Emmet McEvoy, Mark Quinlan, Cathal O’Neill, Dylan O’Shea and Brian O’Grady are all good prospects. Cork will be very tough though with Daire Connery and the Rockies’ Alan Connolly leading the charge for them (should they get past Kerry!)

Baby Jesus is fit and ready for the weekend.

Have no idea of whether either side was close to full strength but the Clare 20s beat Limerick comfortably enough last week in a challenge.

Aidan O’Connor is overage. Luke O’Connor who was on the extended panel last year is still underage though. Is there anybody else from NCW on the panel apart from Ethan Hurley?

Con Hayes and Michael Blashkiv are both on the panel too. Hayes is 16 but arguably the best in the county at his age, he is a massive talent

Ethan Hurley will start centre half back. He was very good last year and he’ll be a huge addition for Newcastlewest in the premier intermediate hurling championship next year. If Con Hayes doesn’t start, he’ll definitely make the match day panel of 24. Michael Blashiv was on the Limerick U16 hurling panel last year. Great to see three hurlers from a GAA club in West Limerick on a Limerick hurling panel. Adam English was named team captain last week and judging by the players that are underage again from last years team, they should be there or thereabouts again this year.

Ethan Hurley will be a huge addition for NCW next year in Premier, it’s a perfect time for him to come into the adult side and challenge straight away at that grade. Adam English is a ridiculous talent and he will take teams to town in the minor this year. Is it Paddy O’Donovan that is also underage too?

I thought they were looking at him in the forwards this year?

Shane O’Brien aswell, serious player.

Paddy O’Donovan, Liam Lynch, John Kirby and Ned Quinn are all the other players that are underage again this year from last years panel. Paddy O’Donovan and Liam Lynch featured in all of the games last year. John Kirby and Ned Quinn were on the extended panel but both of them will definitely be in the starting 15 this year.

He played in the half-forward line for the Newcastlewest minor hurling team this year. If he does start in the forwards, Ronan Lyons will more than likely start centre half back. Shane O’Brien will be starting in the full forward line and he’ll be a key player for Ard Scoil Ris in the Dr Harty cup this year. The Limerick U20 hurling team will be up against it when they play Cork in less than two weeks time. Your own club man Liam Griffin has a good chance of making the starting 15 and if he doesn’t he’ll definitely be named among the substitutes. Do you know if they have played any other challenge games recently apart from the Clare game?

Liam’s been carrying an injury which is unfortunate for him. Cathal Downes will be there or thereabouts too.

They played Tipp & Dublin too.

That’s a much weaker Cork team than the ones we have had over the last few years.

Still plenty of big names on paper- Connery, Twomey, Tommy O’Connell, the Roches; Power & Barrett were flying for UCC & Blarney, Alan Connolly from the Rockies, Eoin Carey.

Have the Lk or Cork boards published u20 and minor panels yet ???

Galway banjaxed for this weekend?

Full back and captain Aaron Moloney injured in training this week and another couple of prospective starters struggling with knocks and unlikely to feature. Shame as this is a very nice team on paper.
