Nice interview by the motm there, Ruairi OāHare. Offering condolences to Monaghan boys and dedicating win to his own club mate and best friend who died 18 months ago. Monaghan were probably drained by extra time but Down impressed me. Very mature in their approach, doing the right things in possession etc.

The 13 that came in for Down shouldve started really. Loads of pace and power. Would be great to see them back, huge tradition there.
They couldāve gotten it done in normal time if theyād taken some very handy chances. Team of big potential.
Dunno was that the case tonight, the fourteen minutes without a score at the end of the second half wasnāt a great reflection of them. No shortage of effort though, some amount of players on both sides going down with cramp for a finish.

Extra time is tough for a county like Monaghan without a big pick, especially for age grade teams
Good to see Down on the rise again. Conor Laverty is a good coach I reckon. Think he managed the Kilcoo U14ās that won the Feile when he was only 21 or so himself.

Down canāt have a massive pick either. Iāve spent the last few days up around the top of the Ards peninsula and every village you go through is festooned with Union Jacks and associated flegs.

Down wouldnāt have a huge pick . Much of the GAA is very rural & Newry isnāt a great GAA town .

True enough, Iām sure Iāve read the balance up there are against a United Ireland now you say it. Fair play to them, serious team. The two instances with the 11 and the frees within the 21 will probably never happen again. They deserved it with how much they created really. Monaghan had some nice forwards so everyone will come out of it well.
