Midleton CBS and CBC have their house in serious order. CBC would have won the Harty this year but for covid imho. A chunk of the lads on that minor panel go to CBS. They will have a serious Harty team year after this. That group has won every schools comp easy so far.
What Iâm suggesting is other counties are going to have to look at ways to make inroads on the Cork underage juggernaut.
In counties like Clare, Waterford and Tipp the importance of the harty is magnified.
St.Colmanâs re emergence is also relevant. They are also winning with a team which is 100% East Cork compared to the border students from South Limerick/West Waterford they used to bring in.
Waterford had 3 good players in their full forward line, Fitzgerald, Twomey and Cummins could all go far. They will get chances in Waterford.
Colmans are north cork. They get some players from bride rovers and watergrasshill alright but no others.
Castlelyons, Lisgoold and Catherineâs too.
North/East Cork. You get the drift.
That is true. Lisgoold go to CBS.
The simple facts are a lot of it comes down to money. Itâs costs a fortune to put the the right systems in place and you are competing against other sports as well as other counties.
A couple of the limerick team could have played soccer or rugby to a high level only for the fact the centre of excellence was so attractive to players and their parents aged 13 or 14.
A county like cork will find the money somewhere but youâd worry for counties like Clare, Waterford, Wexford etc. They havenât a hope imo unless they find huge private investment.
Wexford have no shortage of twine.
Fair enough but itâll be no different to soccer or rugby soon bar maybe a few exceptions.
Hurling is sexy in Cork once again.
Theyâll get some bounce in the next few years. The fact they took Mike Ashleyâs coin shows itâs about money, invest and prosper by the easiest means necessary.
Tipp and KK will have to hope tradition counts.
For all their money, Limericks model is not as sustainable as Corks because they are not making use of the city.
Patrick Fitzgerald in particular has been touted as a sensation for a long time. Always a dangerous business predicting big things for star underage players. Thereâs so many variables that can go wrong. He does have good bloodlines on both sides of the house though, which generally helps to keep a young fellow grounded.
He has a very good step and is dead honest. Taught he may be a slightly nicer hurler striking wise but he should improve that aspect of his game when heâs getting good ball for Ballygunnar seniors in next few years.
Cummins was my pick of the 3. He wonât be afforded the same royalty trying to get bricky rangers out of the west junior hurling championship.
There has been a huge amount of fund raising done in Cork since Frank has left. Cairde CorcaĂ has pulled together a lot of v good people. Kevin Ă Donovan looks like the messiah we needed as well
Tracy saved Cork. What a woman.
The feminists on LinkedIn will be all over her when Cork win Liam back.
Sheâll be President of the GAA in a decade.
She will.
The female sports propaganda machine of Jacqui Hurley, Maire ni whatâs her name and Lauren Guilfoyle have it decided already on their WhatsApp group.
Ah bless. Are the wimmin oppressing you petal?
No. Itâs been decided already Tracy will get the top gig.
I wouldnât call it oppression at all.
Sheâll be no worse than most before her
