Official All Ireland Minor and U20 Hurling & Football Thread (Part 1)

1984 – LIMERICK: Val Murnane, Anthony Madden, Pa Carey, Don Flynn, Ger Hegarty, Anthony O’Riordan (Captain), Andy Cunneen, Anthony Carmody, Mike Reale, Tony Byrnes, Gary Kirby, Gussie Ryan, John O’Neill, Pat Davoren, Brian Stapleton.
Sub: Michael O’Brien.

Bennetsbridge. Jaysus the Lockes had three on the KK team that day.

Limerick will hockey our lads ffs sake. They’re twice the size, as were Wexford int he U-21 semi.
We’re only producing small lads these days.
That’s a super Limerick team and they deserve an All Ireland. I think they last won an All Ireland in 1984 with Pa Carey like a strolling maestro at full back. They were lathering Kilkenny in the final in Thurles when they started showboating and a chap called Tommy Lannon from Thomastown (or Bennetsbridge, same difference) dragged Kilkenny back into it single handed. Kilkenny went a point ahead but Limerick got a last minute point from Brian Stapleton to draw.

The form line here is dangerous for Limerick. Waterford are the only team who could live with Limerick this year, but Kilkenny bested Waterford well in the end. Kilkenny were shit at the start of the year and have improved game on game. If Limerick start believing the hype they could get turned over here.
Who was a better full back? Fan Larkin or Pa Carey?

Why did Galway take their two midfielders out of midfield when they were doing well?

Good recall fagan. All bar two of the limerick side plus a number of subs got a cut at senior but …

Replay was desperately tight & limerick won by a point on a low score, could have been 2-6 2-5

Its Galway, do they need a reason?

Galway did not know where to start with the changes. Only one of their outfield players was dominating his man for most of the game, mind he did get two goals.

Limerick have three weaknesses. Perhaps Kilkenny will exploit them while holding the line elsewhere.

KK will need around 4 goals to have a chance of winning the final,Lmk are are almost certain of scoring 20 odd pts per game it’s scary the firepower they have and if they hit top gear for even 10 minutes especially in the second half they just seem to destroy opposing back lines.

Limk have nothing won yet. Better keep feet on ground for a few weeks,

Dublin looked unstoppable in 2011 when they hit Wd for 6-19 in the semi. They lost the final against Gy 1-21 to 1-12.

Limerick will walk this pal. Cut out the frees and you’ll starve this Kilkenny outfit. Its a credit to them that they made it this far to be honest. FFS they even had to kick a goal football style in the semi final, word has it the lad and his family were last seen being throw over the county border and are currently residing in Durrow.

We don’t exactly have a good record of strolling into finals and winning them.

These fellas should not be burdened by the weight of previous Limerick collapses.

They shouldn’t but. …
