Official All Ireland Senior Football Championship 2010 Thread

Didn’t we say this last year?

There aint too much to get enthused about is there this year? Badly need a new team to come through.

 That pain don’t go away…

I think you’ll find on post two of last years thread I said Kerry would win it.

KERRY (SF v Tipperary) – B Kealy; M O Se, T Griffin, T O’Sullivan; T O Se, M McCarthy, K Young; S Scanlon, M Quirke; P Galvin, Declan O’Sullivan, D Walsh; C Cooper, K Donaghy, B Sheehan.

TIPPERARY (SF v Kerry) - P Fitzgerald; P Codd, N Curran, C McDonald; C Alyward, R Costigan, C McGrath; K Mulryan, G Hannigan; P Acheson, P Austin, H Coghlan; S Carey, B Grogan, B Mulvihill.

WICKLOW (SF v Carlow) – M Travers; S Kelly, D O hAnnaidh, A Byrne; P McWalter, B McGrath, D Hayden; J Stafford, JP Dalton; L Glynn, T Hannon, M Mernagh; D Odlum, S Furlong, P Earls.

DERRY (SF v Armagh) – B Gillis; B Og McAlary, K McGuckian, D McBride; G O’Kane, B McGuigan, M Bateson; F Doherty, P Bradley; S L McGoldrick, M Lynch, D Mullan; P Bradley, E Bradley, R Wilkinson.

ARMAGH – P Hearty; A Mallon, K Toner, B Shannon; P Duffy, C McKeever, F Moriarty; C Vernon, J Lavery; M Mackin, A Kernan, G Swift; B Mallon, S McDonnell, R Henderson.

That Kerry midfield is no great shakes, I could see Tipp dominating that area, but over all Kerry should have more than enough for them and should win by 5 or 6 points.

Bryan Sheehan is banging Tipp corner back Paddy Codd’s sister, the banter should be good.

Ah, that’s epic. Here’s what Sheehan should do:

Just before the game starts, he should take off his gloves and, as he’s offering the traditional pre-match handshake to Codd, he should say ‘Wanna smell your sister?’

KIB with his finger clearly on the Football pulse again.

I expect a very good year.

Kerry - Will have their limitations around the middle and the back, but i expect some super football from them at the same time, especially against the slightly weaker teams when Mike Mac can attack and the corner backs have a relative amount of freedom. Outside bet for POTY is Kieran Donaghy, i expect great things from the big man.

Cork - As a Corkman its almost impossible to analyze ourselves. If i say i think we’ll do it i’ll get ruined should we not, if i say we won’t i’m going against logical reason. I think we will win it, and i think we’ll put in 3 or 4 spectacular performances while doing it.

Dublin - I think they’ll have a better year this year, as in they won’t flatter to decieve and could well make a semi-final or even a final if the draw is good to them. With so many new players loosing a Leinster Semi-Final might be the best path for them, albeit a dangerous one. If they get througha rough loss in CP and then maybe win away in Derry or Mayo or some such place i think it will be the makings of them long term. I want to like a Dublin team, its been a long time since i have.

Galway - The near shock in NY and the need for PJ to get them out of trouble has me thinking, maybe i jumped the gun. But i still think they are potential finalists, like the Dubs the draw will have alot to do with it. Kernan will get the most out of these fellas in the next 3 years all going well, if its enough for an AI or not i’m not sure yet.

Tyrone - I really feel they are up against it. They have good underage players, but not in the same volume as the last couple of star teams. Kyle Coney has a long way to go and injury is hitting them again. I think they may end up too reliant on Cavanagh with the other young red head who is out (name escapes me, fine player), and will then struggle to get enough quality ball into O’ Neill (if he makes it through the season) and Mulligan. They could come a cropper in the 1st round. They are caught a bit for size in defence and midfield as Cork showed last year. I don’t think this will be a great year for Tyrone.

Armagh - Could be a dark horse for a run to the semi’s IMO. New lease of life with the manager, a master stroke in moving Arron Kernan to No.11 and serious potential at midfield and half forward, as well as a good style of football that suits big pitches like CP. Inside they probably need Clarke back, but Stevie looks good. With McGurn in charge they’ll be the best prepared team in the whole thing, probably not enough to win it, but i think they’ll cause teams serious trouble. Their defense could struggle against out and out pace.

Sligo - Another team i think will have a good run, and play lovely football. They have a good system, are amazingly fit and have a couple of good scoring forwards, with Kelly being as good as almost anything around. They maybe lack a bit of size overall, but their all action game will cause some trouble this year.

Limerick - Expect a good year from them this year, they are fairly experienced now, have actually won something (which is not to be underestimated) and have a more even spread of scoring it seems. They like Sligo have a plan, and stick to it most of the time and are extremely fit. They seem as if they have added a bit of depth as well. Stay reasonably injury free and a Munster and/or AI 1/4 Final isn’t beyond them. A bit of luck wouldn’t go astray.

You would expect some good performances from Tipperary, Donegal, Mayo, Kildare, Laois possibly, Down (a bit away from whats needed yet IMO), Antrim, Cavan and maybe Monaghan. Everyone else is in trouble i think.

My sources tell me its the worst Kerry panel in 20 years yet they expect to win as there aint much to beat them. Certainly wouldnt be writing off Tyrone in what is likely to be a poor season. They still have some class players and like Kerry will be aiming to peak from the quarters on. I like seeing Cork being hyped up already. I see Donnacha O’Connor has been brought out to centre forward. He might provide some badly needed guile there but he epitomises Cork. Nice player particularly against shit teams but under pressure collapses. Dublin have two superb forwards but huff and puff besides them. Mayo stung me last year the cunts. If they only could believe in themselves they could be in with a right chance. But with cunts like Conor Mortimer preferring to take handy points to get his name on the scoresheet rather than setting up a goal, you would always wonder about them. Kildare showed some promise last year but I havent heard much about them since.

As for my team Galway, plenty of scoring power up front but are still unable to win possession in midfield my spies tell me. Too many wannabe forwards in the defence too. Will improve if they get to Croke Park though.

I see it as being a very poor season. Teams like Dublin will put 13 players in their own half of the field to avoid a hammering like last year. Negative tactics will rule.

How someone predicts a poor season is beyond me, maybe they are preempting the shite they’ll talk if Cork win the All-Ireland.

I would confidently say the worst Kerry panel of the last 20 years was the 92-95 panel, this years panel has 9 U-21 All-Irelands, 23 Senior All-Irelands and a host of All-Stars. The 1992-95 team barely won a game. Any Kerryman worth his salt would tell you that, so your sources are more than likely from some surfer who played U-12 for Castlegregory who has now moved to some wavey spot in West Clare.

You really haven’t a fucking clue, which is proved by you putting money on Mayo, ever, which is retarded.

Corks nice players blew Tyrone away last year, are Tyrone a shit team? Cork definitely shouldn’t have been hammered by Kerry in 2007 final, or the previous semi final, but they haven’t lost to an inferior team in years. You can’t do much if the the more talented team are in form.
Solid previews there Kev,well presented.

Whoa Whoa Whoa, Kerry had a fine side in 1992. Going on your reasoning above - Jack O’Shea had umpteen medals. No doubt there was u-21 medals and all stars in that side too. Ergo if medals are the sole judge of how good a side is then that team must have been class.

After Kerry, Mayo have the most consistent championship record in terms of wins in recent times. Thought they were value at the time but losing to Meath was just sickening. Meath were useless too.

Unfortunately they collapse in finals though. Bit like Cork. Kerry played pants in the All Ireland final last year particularly in the second half when they only scored was it three points? They certainly werent in form but never looked like losing either.

Last season was dire and I predict this will even be worse.
Just because Clare are going to be shit this season again doesn’t mean everyone else will be Kib.

I believe KIB stated earlier on that he is from the Galway part of Clare.

double post

Kerry hockeyed Cork in Pairc Ui Choimh in 1992
Right… same applies!

And lost to Clare, Cork were without Tompkins amongst others and were in transition. I should of course said 93-95.

I’m just saying this isn’t the worst Kerry team in 20 years, not by a long shot. They’ll not win it this year in my opinion, but they’ll still be in top 3-4 teams. That Kerry team was muck. And so were Cork in 92 by the way.

Last season had some great games, but i suppose you only watched the final.
Indeed Cork V Kerry(first game)Dublin V Kildare and Cork V Limerick were 3 of the best games last year.
