giving 5 players debuts in the one game from the start and leaving off high profile players to me seemed complacent, or maybe even arrogant. just what I thought of their selection anyway. leaving out the likes of Alan Brogan, Cullen etc. I know Dublin are trying to rebuild a newer yuonger team, but to me it seemd like too much at once, and saw Wexford as a great way to get the lads into it.
Bastick was some idiot alright. Why was he complaining about hitting the wexford player, as if they had got in his way? he just went for him!
Its worth mentioning here. Eamon Fennell is a fucking donkey of epic proportions and all the fears about his donkeyness and its ability to survive in Croke Park were well founded. Its a shame Gilroy couldnt have let him out on it on a Wednesday morning when no one was looking to save everyone the embarassment of yesterday afternoon.
Pat Gilroy - “We just couldn’t seem to get our hands on the ball. Wexford were coming at us in droves and they seemed to have a spare man coming from the back”.
in fairness, we played for 90 minutes of football, and he still didnt realise we were playing with an extra man dropping deep. you’d really have to question his management skills if he cant spot something as obvious as that.
Giroy certainly wouldn’t be the first Dublin manager to miss glaringly obvious weaknesses for a whole championship match. I’ll give him that.
would want to learn quick. Dublin will meet teams better equipped than Wexford, and I thought they were badly exposed. as bad as we were with no plan B, Dublin didnt know how to deal with Wexfords tactics.
Not to much to say about the match, Kerry were the deserved winners. Aidan Walsh was a considerable loss, he gave about the only good direct ball into our full-forward line all day. In reality, we should have been 8-9 points up at half-time, and Kerry were just a little more ruthless in their purple patch then we were.
Quite a few tactical mistakes - MacMahon and Miskella shouldn’t have been brought on, Cotter should have come on for Jamie O’Sullivan much earlier, far too little protection for the full-back line from the center back line while this Sheehan in full-forward experiment robs our attack of width and let the Kerry defence keep everything narrow and tight. Ref was awful - Kerry full-back line fouling constantly, missed Galvin’s gouging from five yards away and the whole thing with Goulding and the missed 45 in the second half was just embarassing. Still, we didn’t deserve to win, simple as.
Betting up for the final Kerry 1/7 Limerick 11/2,forgot what the draw is maybe around 7/1.No handicap betting up as of yet but i would expect at least 6pts if they are that sure of Kerry.
TIPPERARY boss John Evans (right) has been rocked by the loss of four players, including full-back star Ciaran McDonald, ahead of the All-Ireland SFC qualifiers.
McDonald, wing-back Chris Aylward (22) and promising U-21 midfielder Alan Moloney (20) have all left Ireland for a summer stint in the USA, while forward Sean Carey has decided to concentrate on hurling with the county U-21s.
It is a massive blow as Tipperary face a tough challenge against the winners of Meath/Laois in the first round of the All-Ireland qualifiers.
However, the county manager said the quartet had gone with his blessing.
“Sean Carey has had a long year with the seniors and he wants to have a shot with the U-21 hurlers,” Evans said.
"With Ciaran, Chris and Alan, I was talking to them and negotiating with them, but there’s just no employment here.
"They’re gone to America with my blessing. They’re young lads, strapped for cash and going to college.
“They need the money and their commitment has been second to none. If I could get them a job here I would, but I’m afraid I can’t,” Evans added.
Dublin took the unconventional step of staying overnight in a city hotel the night before their opening championship match against Wexford on Sunday.
In a break with tradition, Pat Gilroy gathered his players together in the Regency Airport Hotel, which is just minutes from Croke Park, on Saturday evening.
The purpose of the exercise was to keep the players together in a team environment for as long as possible because it was felt that it had worked well ‘on the road’ during the league.
Traditionally, Dublin players sleep in their own beds on the night before big games in Croke Park and it is understood that some players were dissatisfied with the arrangements.
The Regency Airport Hotel has become one of the Dublin team’s partnership sponsors and it was the venue where Gilroy announced his first championship team of 2010 last Wednesday morning.
The majority of Dublin players live close to Croke Park and may have felt it a strange experience.
For a 4.0 throw-in the strategy will raise some eyebrows, though it can hardly be attributed to the malaise of their first-half performance, which has thrown Gilroy’s team selection for either Meath or Laois up in the air.
Not sure why lads thought they had ran me off anywhere, but let them off.
Can’t disagree with much Turenne. Kerry still have the better forwards and balance to their side, especially in the forwards. I think you alluded to the Sheehan experiement, and i’m begining to agree with you. I mentionde it here befoer, but we actually don’t have any left corner forward, yet 3 right corner players, its fairly unusual. I think Sheehan needs to move to wing as does Kerrigan with Pierce centre and Donnacha in the corner or off. If JOhn Hayes is the best left corner man we have then use him. Play Colm O’ Neill at full and Daniel the other side. There is some natural balance to that forward line.
You have to admire Kerry for being outplayed at midfield yet still drawing and winning these 2 games, shows how good their forwards are.
Having asid all that Canty’s sending off helped them geratly and especially Galvin. It was an outrageous decision and the worst display i’ve ever seen from McInneney, but what can you do, we staill had enough to win. Galvin needs to get put down, which is a pity he’s such a scumbag 'cos he’s possibly the best footballer in the country right now, what a scumbag though. Tommy Griffen gets away with murder, absolute murder, and its obvious alot of umpires aren’t doing their job with him, 'cos the refs never ever watch inside for his antics as a ball s going in, a good ref watches for this, usually after a tip off from an umpire.
Aidan Walsh was a massive loss alright, but overall i was always of the opinion that the qualifiers might suit Cork. Its going to absolutely ruin the club championship, but there you go.
I agree with Braz and Turenne though, no matter what happens between now and september its hard to have trust in Cork and Kerry are the favourites. The football has been very good this year overall, but these are the 2 best teams by a bit in terms of overall quality and All/Irelands winners will definitely come from these 2 IMO.
Usual mbb shite, talking about something he knows nothing about. People who go on radio shows are cranks, only idiots listen to them.
The vast majority of Cork football people admire Nemo and how they run their show. We all love beating them, but its more of a sign of your own standing as to everybody hating them, with possible exception of their closest rivals St. Finbarrs.

good to see you not being scared off by the internet hardmen kev
WRT the qualifiers, I dont think this is a good year to be going that route. there are some serious teams in it this year, and despite Cork not knowing their best team, they’d be better off in the AI 1/4 final with 3 games behind them rather than in the qualifiers and potentially drawing Armagh, Derry, Mayo, etc. It could be the making of them, but its a real potential minefield too. they could escape some big sides and get decent draws, but I’d still think a direct route is a better option.
