With the league all but wrapped up, its time to get us a 2011 Football Championship Thread.
Joe McMahon had his jaw broke in a Tyrone Club game yesterday, and rumours abounding of Paddy Bradley having tore his cruciate to go with the numerous other torn cruciates abounding GAA at present.
There seems to be extraordinary amount of torn cruciates around, Is there any reason for this? Is it the boots players are wearing or are is just a case that it is reported than it use to be?
Have heard differing reasons, from the bladed boots to the sand based pitches. Could just be pure coincidence. Could just be that with MRI’s the way they are now, that a “bolloxed knee” is no longer and now we know exactly whats wrong. Same as the broken metarsal became so well known in the past.
Either way, there’s a fair number of high profile players being struck down of late.
You are right here, i read recently that the amount of cruiciate injuries is actually down in the past couple of years. It would seem it just somewhat coincidental that these players are having problems at the same time. Alot of them seem to be players with a history of injuries.
I’m not really sure Gola, he just is. And thats a very weird thing when its someone who is at least 200 miles away from me, isn’t very physically intimidating and i admired for a very long time and was a really nice man when i did meet him. I admired his team, his attitude, his application, everything. Now he kinda freaks me out, and i have no explanation for it really.
Cork will probably win the AI again this year by being less crap than their opponents for much of the championship.
Kerry have no midfield.
Tyrone will be too impacted after the Harte tragedy
Dublin will choke when it’s important again
Kildare are the 1 team who could beat Cork but will likely not get a chance to play them and get knocked out by someone who they should have beaten
Donegal should be the dark horses
Laois will do a Dublin on it and choke when it matters
Meath will turn on the manager and he’ll resign after a limp championship exit
Down will go ok in Ulster but will ultimately be shown up to be the limited outfit that they are
Mayo will do a Mayo on it
Armagh should challenge for Ulster but will be out of contention come mid August
Monaghan will probably lose to Tyrone first time out and win a few qualifier games but be out by the end of July
Galway should be discounted as they’re from Connacht
Derry will miss Paddy Bradley too much to be considered for anything
I’ll point you to the second last line of my post Dunph. If you want me to be more specific then I would expect a spirited defeat against Kerry in the Munster Semi Final before an embarrassing defeat against Leinster or Ulster opposition in the qualifiers.
In order of likelihood toi win the All-Ireland I would rank it:
1.Cork
2.Down
3.Kildare
4.Dublin
5.Tyrone
6.Kerry
I think Down might turn Cork over though if they play them at the business end of the championship. They will lhave to tighten up their defence to do that.
Its just a feeling Sid, i’m saying there is anything really in it, just find some things weird, thats all. And having Down No.2 is just nuts, give over will ya.
Mac - Cork are a class football team, the sooner you realise that the sooner you’ll be able to enjoy them.
