Having seen Bandage part company with the Galaxy today and the Jets during the the Super Bowl run-in I noted there has been a lot of activity in the teams we all follow. Might be useful if everyone tracked their official list on this thread and updated as necessary.
As of March 9, 2012 my teams are as follows:
Football
New York Football Giants
[Open position for whoever Peyton Manning signs for]
Basketball
New York Knicks
Ice Hockey
New York Rangers
Association Football
Arsenal FC
Rep. of Ireland
New York Red Bulls
Bristol City
Luton Town
Wexford Youths FC
Baseball
New York Mets
Gaelic Games
Wexford
For the moment thatâs it for me. Obviously the list will be reviewed constantly and evolve with the success/failure of each team/franchise.
This wavering in support of teams is ridiculous but seems only to be a eastern sea board thing⌠Growing up a west Brit and the confusion about where your loyalties should be must have been tough and a major factor in your gee- bagness .
Luton Town as, like most of the population of this country, I have relatives there. I vaguely remember watching them playing when I was very young, the famous Milk Cup victory etc. Always had a Luton poster on my wall growing up. Theyâll always have a place in my heart.
Bristol City as I dated a girl from the West Country for five years and would attend 4 to 5 games a season with her father who was a season ticket holder, a thoroughly alright sort he was too whom I had a huge amount of personal and professional respect for.
Why didnât that end up in marriage, Brian? I couldnât think of anything better than marrying into a family where you attend a league fixture most weeks with the father in law, with all the pies and ale that involves.
While no one ever asked me why I support Huddersfield, Iâd like to relate the story of going to see them when I was 11 in Monkstown and due to my father working with the club secretary of TEK United, getting all the autographs. Fantastically, one of the Town centre halves that day was an Irish lad from Ballyfermot who I now work alongside. I showed him the match programme and his autograph and I could sense he was almost teary eyed. Heâs a member of Buckoâs backroom team now for Pats when heâs not in work. Small oul world.
