I have had a similar dilemma recently. I think a few of them are settling into positions and perhaps they need time there to build their confidence in that position so I have left them there for now. Goalie remains a position thats difficult to fill. Having a goalie who can puck the ball more than 30 yards is a real asset at U11!

updated that for you

We could have done with one who could clear the 45 in the junior b the other night

A lot of that is because of ‘by default’, those lads when young are put into the County Development squads (gaining a massive advantage over some others who don’t have the family roots)

Your goalie should be your best stick person on the pitch but many are reluctant to be the last line of defence. Difficult to blame them, on a good team they see too little of the action. Invaluable asset thou. My girl played in goals. Wanted to play out field and the deal was if the opposition scored 6 goals she had to score 7. She got the point that it was easier for her to have a crack at stopping 6.

Those apostrophes are a fucking killer.

He didnt even need them. A decent post ruined by a fella showing he doesn’t understand how to use an apostrophe.

Depends on the age where by 14/15/16 they get set in positions. Some lada are.more natural scorers, some Lads haven’t the engine for.midfield etc

However, if we’re still winning well, I like to put kids in positions they’re uncomfortable in. For.example, we’ve a midfielder who is an absolute gun and a monster. Unreal fast, scores a tonne from midfield and dominates physically. I like throwing him in fullback as fielding high ball is still a weakness and physically, he’s often unchallenged at midfield so a big full forward is a different challenge to him. He’s never going to end up fullback as it’s a waste of skillset but think there are elements he can learn and add at this age back there occasionally.

Fact he hates it I don’t mind one bit either, keeps his ego in check!

Classic

There’s a bit of learning in that for him too. It’s not just hurlers/footballers we’re trying to produce, it’s decent young men too.

Exactly. I like you’re approach.

We’d Dean Rock and Paddy Andrews up tonight to help train our lads.

They were great with the kids. My lad came home with the boots and jersey signed.

The volunteer spirit of Dublin GAA is humbling.

An interesting thread of thoughts on u18 situation.

As noted too by me earlier, Wexford committee came out and stated an intention to go back to u18 next year and are putting it to county convention

He’s kind of like Kev.

Everyone knows there’s no silver bullet but it needs to go back to u18 and as Dalo said let them play with the adult teams also.

Seemed like a savage game of football judging by the score. Always good to beat the Martins at underage. Is that the top division or their premier at U13? Kudos on a fine managerial accomplishment.

He doesn’t really address what was seen as the major issue with the age change, which was u19s and trying to shoe horn it into the middle of the summer

A TJ Ryan answer. Giving an opinion without an actual clear answer.

Yeah i think its going to almost go hand and hand that minor goes to 18s and the next grade up has to also change.
