Let them play Senior so.

But not under age also.

I was never 18.

I was born at 41.

Stop fuckin mollycoddling young fellas and let them play whatever the fuck they want. Have minor matches on Thursday nights, no adult games moved to accommodate them or visa versa.

Why not both?

I remember when Aidan McCormack scored nineteen (19) points for Thurles Sars in the County Minor Final of 2010 and then rocked on the next day to score 1-04 for Sars Seniors in a Mid Final.

Think he was into school the Tuesday for a challenge game for the CBS Harty Cup team.

Halcyon days.

What did Declan Hannon score for Adare in the munster club and he was only about 14

1-13 (albeit mostly from free’s) before his 17th birthday.

Noel McGrath was Loughmore’s best player as a mere 16-year-old in a Munster Club winning campaign too.

Jake Dillon also won a Munster Club starting at Under 17.

Let them at it to fuck.

And any club not letting their minors play minor will suffer until they do. Fuck these cunts of senior coaches who are ruining it for everyone. A club would be doing well to have one lad in that category, let him be an exception for the year.

Its down to common sense. Some lads are physically and mentally ready, others are not. Basically, county boards dont trust the ability of clubs to distinguish between the two.

when you have clubs on the verge of folding because of an underage player they are watching for 5 years to come in and save them from extinction, I dont think you could say you’d put any trust in their €150/night trainer to ensure he is managed well and not over burdened. @Appendage has mentioned it already, but having minor on at the same time as adult was an unmitigated disaster in Wexford. Maybe other counties can make it work, but it didnt work here and you had minor championships lasting 8 months with a 2 or 3 month break between knock out games due to one or 2 minor players playing adult games in football and/or hurling. Decoupling them as it currently stands is working well. U17 is not working well. U19 is an even worse situation.

Do ye realise how bad the standards are now since all the messing with ‘decoupling’ and age grades started?

I tried to watch some of this year’s All Ireland Under 20 Hurling Final and had to turn it off. It was hopeless stuff. The Fitzgibbon Final too was played by Cian Lynch and a load of nobodies.

They’ve had to change the rules on YHOTY, things are so bad.

What makes ye think not allowing 18 year olds play for an Adult team is a good idea? Easier make up a fixture list on a spreadsheet?

The problem there is the lack of backs and forwards in training.

Or ins and outs as the old school lads say.

Modern lads do backs and forwards.

@peddlerscross has totally destroyed the Molly Coddlers in this very important debate.

Clubs, players and parents know how to manage these situations the best.

I remember back in the good old days there was an odd protective parent who didn’t want their Johnny playing and that’s fair enough too.

Let the rest of us get on with it.

@Appendage knows nothing about what’s involved in managing a team

We need to remember too that a lot of lads can be more or less past it at 19 with Women, College, Drink, Travel all to the fore.

To get them young, you might get the best out of them.

Destroyed.

Let them play.

Let it in long and early.

Backs and forwards.

Laps.

Cones.

Destroy rural clubs. Etc.

So say here you’re talking about the 2004 born cohort. Will they not have the exact same problem waiting on a player from 2005 the following year? Leaving them until their 19th year to play senior adult club is a disaster really. It may seem like they have endless number of years to play adult club but they could take until 21 to break through at this rate and be finished at first team level 10 years later. That’s a narrow enough window to be trying to make an indelible mark in your clubs history.

The minor final was often played before the senior final in Wexford. 2012 hurling a case in point off the top of my head. Obviously that would depend on the teams involved also. Jordan Morrissey was actually on an Eire Og minor team and senior panel on the same day in 2017 which is a situation you’d rather avoid.

It often was. In the 80s and 90s.

But it often wasn’t too.

The last minor football championship we won was finished in January because a few of them were playing senior.

Which didn’t end for us until Halloween.

And we’re cat.

I was over a minor team one year and we made it to both premier finals. They made us play the hurling early and rushed it off as the seniors of the opponent club “will definitely be in the final and we cant have a clash”. They were knocked out in the 1/4 final. The football then was drawn out for ages as a results. Too much emphasis was put on senior fixtures and making sure they were sorted. Even predicting senior fixtures took priority

Ye have very differing experiences to minor championships in Wexford than there is in Tipperary anyway.

Minors play mid week until the knockout stages. If there was a clash at a weekend the minor knockout game still took place mid week.

The minor finals usually happened a week or two after the senior but sometimes if there was different clubs involved they actually had the minor final the same day.

It all comes back to the Molly coddling view that minors cannot play mid week and weekend which is a load of BS.

Are you thick?

By all means play mid week and at weekends.

But the practice down here is that doesn’t work with schools.

Molly coddling isn’t the issue.

I doubt it works too well anywhere else either but it’s the internet so anecdotal is good enough.
