That’s beyond bizarre. The residents weren’t happy with eight gigs in 2014 but they thought they’d be ok with nine???
This is a text book example of how to completely fuck up managing an event. It’ll be used as an example in tutorials for years.

The main problem was the 5 in a row more than anything else. If it was 3 now and 3 later in the year I dont think that would have caused too much of an issue. The problem was that 5 days in a row was too much of a disruption and it is not just the 5 days of the concert where there are disruptions, it is also the week leading up to it with all the trucks and stage construction going on and then all dismantling and moving out of the stage after the event as well.
Surely 3 now and 3 later in the year would have caused more disruption as they’d have to assemble and dismantle the stage twice?
To normal people, yes, Sid. But we are not dealing with normal people here.
Glad you think I’m a normal person, mate.
Men want to be you Sid. Never forget that.
Eoin Keegan is a cyclist.
Now there’s a fuckin surprise.
The GAA has up to this point kept its powder dry, now it strikes.
DCC ‘told GAA they would support five Brooks gigs’
GAA Director General Páraic Duffy has said the association was advised by Dublin City Council that the council would support all five Garth Brooks concerts.
Speaking to the Oireachtas Transport and Communications Committee, he said he had to stress that at no stage was there ever given “even a hint” that a licence would not be granted for all five concerts.
He also said that in a phone call to Croke Park Stadium Director Peter McKenna, Dublin City Council Chief Executive Owen Keegan advised him that the council would support a licence application for all five concerts.
Committee chair man John O’Mahony raised the GAA’s assertion that Dublin City Council had told them they supported the five day event.
Mr O’Mahoney said Dublin City Council had appeared yesterday and given a different version of events.
Croke Park Stadium Director Peter McKenna said he was so certain of the telephone conversation he had with Mr Keegan, he was prepared to swear an affidavit.
Yesterday, Dublin City Council’s chief executive described the decision to limit the number of concerts to three as “appropriate, balanced and fair”.
Mr Keegan said it was not possible to go back on the licensing decision regarding the Brooks concerts and said it would be a matter for the Oireachtas to amend legislation for the Minister for the Environment to change regulations.
Mr Duffy also said that the overwhelming demand for Garth Brooks tickets was not anticipated.
There was confusion about the number of concerts permitted in Croke Park, he said.
He said they had a permanent licence for three concerts a year and if they wish to hold events with more than 5,000 people, they have to apply for a special events licence.
He said this was a common approach and was used by other venues such as Marlay Park, the Phoenix Park and the Royal Hospital Kilmainham.
He said legally there was no limit to the number of special event licences they could apply for.
He said they had held extensive consultation with the local residents and contributed substantially to local facilities and events.
Mr Duffy was also critical of the council’s handling of the fraudulent objections.
He said the council should have 'taken the time to cast a more rigorously sceptical eye on both the nature and extent of the opposition to the five concerts and thus perhaps a different decision.
He told the committee that the council recognised the economic benefits of the concerts, but said they were not central or intrinsic to the decision-making process.
Mr Keegan also said the concert promoters were told of the serious concerns about the impact that the concerts would have on local residents.
Let it go, MBB. Just let it go.

What is the story with regard to this Handball Alley issue the Croke Park residents want I have heard about?
Like fuck, let it go. This Keegan fucker should fall on his sword for this debacle.
This was always bigger than Garth, this was always about the GAA putting themselves in a position to obliterate this sham of a residents organisation. First the Mulvey decision, now this, Duffy has them where he wants them. Throw in the fact that the RWC Bid will require 7 events at Croker and you have a very interesting situation developing.
Carry, it’s a beautiful day outside, light up one of your trademark bifters and let all this Garth bullshit drift away.
Nothing is bigger than garth brooks if this debacle is anything to go by.

Harry, I wouldnt dream of claiming to know what went on with that handball alley to be quite honest. I remember there being a Primetime episode on it at one stage and numerous threads on the farmyard about it, with any number of local lunatics commenting on it there. I’m not sure the GAA covered themselves in glory in the matter, but the endgame going on at present is being expertly played in comparison.
Is the official meet-up still on or what?

probably more to it than this, but from what little I would know of it, there is a handball alley and community centre that the locals use. For some reason, they get cheap drinks in the bar. Its old and smelly. The GAA want it demolished and build a new one. Community dont. GAA are railroading them into making it happen.
Only if we can all go piss in the residents gardens afterwards.
