Official TFK Garth Brooks Meet Up July 2014

I find his music a bit scmaltzy. I likes country music. John Prine, Johnny Cash, Willie Nelson, Kris Kristoffersin, Emmy Lou. Garth is obviously hugely popular but for me, he would be a lightweight compared to the above. I think he produces a sort of boyband version of country music that i dont like but lots of people obviously do.

On top of that he did behave like a spoilt child with the cancelled concerts 8 years ago.

Michael Flatley is what you’d get if gene willder joined the village people.

:clap::clap: in a nutshell. He’s a Penneys knockoff.

You like outlaw country, I love that as well, do you listen to Townes Van Zandt? You’d love it.
Garth is actually closer to traditional country, the songs are meaty enough but his voice on record is very clean

He’d be a lot more popular (here) if he wasn’t so popular :grinning:

I know two leads who toured with it after flatley. Played in front of live tv audience in China of over 20 million

Love him, massively underrated. He used spend a lot of time in Lahinch apparently? @Raylan

Story he told goes he was in a pub but not recognized. He sang one of his own songs in a sing song and the barman said ‘you sing that almost as nice as John Prine himself’

I haven’t heard a Brooks song in 20 odd years id day. I’d only ever stick the Radio on while driving but you’d never hear any of his songs on, not even on classic hits even , which is odd as he was huge for a period.

Hank Williams (and Hank III) has to be in that conversation. And I’d throw Steve Earle into the mix too.

I never heard it called that. I have a few of Townes on spotify. He wrote Pancho and Lefty I think.

One of the greats. In Spite of Ourselves with Iris DeMent is the truest and possibly the greatest love song ever written.

He ain’t got laid in a month of Sundays
I caught him once and he was sniffin’ my undies
He ain’t too sharp but he gets things done
Drinks his beer like it’s oxygen
He’s my baby
And I’m his honey
Never gonna let him go

George Strait, Loretta Lynn, Waylon Jennings… I was reared on this and an unhealthy amount of Jim Reeves

I was reared on Jim Reeves. The mother loved him and Josef Locke. The tunes still go around in my head.

Garth Brooks I am indifferent to. If people want to go to see him, good luck to them.

My auntie who lived in England had a Jim Reeves boxset. The brother probably has it now.
