No, but the cohort who ALWAYS vote FF or FG based on 3 generations of indoctrination is literally dying out.
Politics in ireland can be quite simple, the more people you can gather around you to tell everyone else how good you are/what you will do, the higher your chances. Actually doing what you said isnt always necessary. FF are masters at the numbers game and keeping people involved in the organisation.
There aren’t fundamental issues in Ireland where there are major disagreements like the climate, social matters or something like Brexit. I do think immigration has the potential to go that way though.
There is a degree of the vibes type voting out there, with the youth definitely influenced by the Up The Ra / Kneecap stuff. Not sure that will hold.
Housing is definitely the big issue but whilst some parties engage in ideological warfare on it, at an electoral level it is about getting reasonably priced housing and they don’t give a fuck if developers are making a profit.
The reality is that FF and FG got close to 30% in the exit poll for 18-24. It’s not that big a leap to 43%, particularly as that generation do buy homes. Remember that first time buyers have been increasing. The SF rhetoric on housing is not appealing to people sane who have bought a house themselves.
TFK is indeed remarkable at unearthing whackjobs. The thought that the greens would perish is fanciful to say the least given history and the issues facing the world.
An international organisation no less. Not to mention they’ve been here before and will be again. I’d have little or no time for them, but fair fucks, they have the balls to go in and get some of their policies implemented while they can, unlike others who get elected in this country.
Thought it was strange. Wall to wall coverage from Saturday morning when they had no results to talk about and then they all went home Sunday when most of the results came in.
