BOTH SIDES

Is the earth flat or round? Stay tuned, after the break we’ll hear both equally plausible sides of the argument.

Apparently more Gardai would have prevented this woman from being assaulted on the LUAS.

For any early risers…Si’s currently doing an insta live Q&A.

What’s the correct pronunciation of the word “Gael” do you know? Spectrumy Si really emphasises the w in it. “If elected Fine Gwael will do…”

He’ll be tired again by the time of the big debate later. Expect some more snappiness

MLMD calling the two lads tweedledum & tweedledee while being vague on policy & just generally saying we need change after 100 years of disastrous FFG government is a sure fire way to trigger them. Martin had a few pops but reined himself in overall on the debate last week…Harris on the other hand was very amusing with the indignant “how dare you” stuff & loads of other bits & pieces. He made a bit of a show of himself so anything could happen tonight. Si Harris when he feels like he nothing to lose could be a different animal.

Maybe the well worn condescending Irish mammy schtick is more triggering for the younger Si than for the old dog Micheal

No doubt but I think there was an element of Si still feeling invincible as recently as last Monday week, a mere 8 days ago. They were still feeling pretty confident back then, they were apparently winding FF up by attacking them in the press but then staged an accidental meeting in Kerry where Harris “bumped into” an irked looking Martin on the campaign trail on the Saturday. He was full of new Si energy there & controlling the narrative.

The new McGahon footage & piece with the lad he bate the head off came out in The Sunday Times & it all started unravelling from there. But I’d say on the Monday night itself Si went in full of confidence & thinking he could land a knock-out blow on MLMD & SF but just came off looking like a right weirdo with his posturing & snarky interventions. Add in his comment on the Children’s Hospital & then Kanturk on Friday & it’s a completely different context for Si tonight. This could be his chance to snatch back victory from the jaws of defeats.

Might Simon try washing the grey out of his hair ahead of tonight?

I ordinarily wouldn’t put much stock in debates as people are generally fixed on their party/ candidate by now but this does have the feel of a big midweek champions league fixture. SF have just about steadied the ship but have a poor defence and if they are not on it they could ship a few. Like Liverpool under Klopp, will need an emotional response.
FF are Real Madrid. Utterly detestable bastards but they have the know how to hang in and nick a winning goal. FG are Bayern Munich- robotic Germans falling apart after a period of complete dominance.
It’s all to play for.

Tonight could be very interesting.

Obviously Harris needs to reverse the momentum - but not in a way that plays into the snippy narrative. An obvious strategy would have been to play up the argument for economic stability if FG hadn’t released as stupid a giveaway manifesto as the others.

Mary Lou is under a bit of pressure too - this is prob her last shot at Taoiseach or even ministerial office. She’s unlikely to convert FG voters to her so she needs to do two things: firstly motivate some of her 2020 voters to actually go out and vote on Fri and secondly to persuade some of the anti gov voters who have drifted to independents to come back again.

Micheal has prob the easiest job - he’ll likely be the next Taoiseach. His risk is navigating potential future coalition partners. If FG drop too much he could be in an awkward position re coalition with SF.

All Micheal has to do tonight is keep upright and distance himself from Simon. I expect him to handle both easily.

I’m liking this more and more as a prediction

I reckon Harris is the only Fine Gaeler who wants to go into govt

FG sending whatsapps and voicenotes to the top brass in RTE vindicates Sinn Fein.

If, and it’s a big if, SF and FF do form a government on their own after Friday, how would the ministries be allocated? Depending on numbers obviously but would we have a rotating Taoiseach again? FF will want Justice and Housing for sure but SF will definitely want Housing so maybe a bone of contention there. Finance to rotate as well? Saturday will be a day for the fire and spreadsheets I think😄
