Another gold for Australia in the 4 x 100m freestyle relay. Brisbane sisters Cate and Bronte Campbell to the fore. Weāre dominating the pool in Rio.
Miles better but just trying to qualify out of tougher conference
Donāt think the sevens should be in the Olympics but the menās should be a good spectacle. Far less cannon fodder than the womenās comp
The fencing was good last night. We should definitely be good at it.
+1 mickee, great piece
Outstanding piece of writing from Irelandās answer to Gary Smith. I half knew Sam Lynch through my sister back in 96 and remember that race very well, absolutely heartbreaking. Great anecdote which finishes with, āthanks Michelle, howād you get on yourself?ā I also remember seeing a woman with a double buggy running like an Olympian on the Condell road some years back, now it makes sense.
My sister often referred to the lady jogging either the double buggy alright. Gas how she only took up rowing after doing a bit of life guarding in Wildwood of all places.
Great article, apart from the obvious Rugby slant deriding the commute from Limerick to Cork. A great story all the same.
They are doing a bad job. i like the BBCs coverage
Any link for this lads?
It looked like it happened at the end of the routine but Behan has said it happened after his first tumble and he just carried on anyway. This lad must have some pain threshold. And heās ridiculously lucky and unlucky at the same time. A great example to others.
Lynch is from limerick. He was 20 for Atlanta which was young for a rower. His father worked in the same place as me, the company supported him and staff did a lot fundraising. Whole place watched his races and we were incredibly disappointed when he just missed out.
Irish rowers have a number of fourths but no medal over the years. It was previously blamed on not having lightweight events but still no medal from those.
Through friends I would have had a huge interest in rowing growing up. Niall O Toole was a world champion lightweight sculler in the early 90s and would have won a medal in Barcelona if there was a lightweight class. He was poetry in motion.
I have the utmost respect for all rowers, I said it earlier that even at club level 20 odd years ago those lads wouldnāt have a drink know for months before the national championships in June. They often trained three times a day.
We are top of the medals table
Thereās only 1 way you can go from there
for the article? I included it about ten posts up.
nothing rugby about deriding the commute from Cork to Limerick! If youd ever done it youd know. id prefer drive to Dublin from either location.
Another Brit drugs cheat is being allowed to compete today. Lizzie Armistead, who missed 3 tests in the past year, has had one voided to allow her compete. Worse than the Russians these fuckers.
Crazy bastard. And for fuck all reward
Professional Individual athletes spend their time competing against themselves so the fact he completed it without massively messing up like he did in London could be enough reward he needs.
