On this day

One of the greatest days of all time.

Roy Keane was some player.

A day made in Liverpool. Sorry, Birkenhead.

The country was at its peak back then.

I think U2 played Slane that night.

The following weekend Bertie did the analysis on RTE’s ‘The Premiership’ with Dunphy and Giles. United beat Everton 4-1. Fantastic Light beat Galileo at the Leop and Tipp won the All Ireland on the Sunday.

Then 9/11 happened on the Tuesday.

Wexford sent Limerick home with tae in their mug

Everytime I hear of 9/11 now I think of @fenwaypark in Boston in a strip club with his brother.

That’s a pretty weird fantasy. Have you considered telling him how you feel?

Think you misread that one.

U2 played Slane alright and some of the Irish team arrived by helicopter and were on stage with them by the end of the night

Did they?

Sure

I was inside the venue literally two minutes and who’s there a few yards off to the left except Eire goalkeeper Seamus Given, fresh from his brush with Ruud van Nistelrooy.

We will never have such days again and that’s depressing.

Has any team ever resorted to a full on 0-5-5 formation like King Louis Van Gaal finished up with that day?

Me on Championship Manager 94/95 on the Amiga.

I’m not

That game against Holland in the old landsdowne must have been an incredible weekend in Dublin

Anybody who was anybody got out of Dublin immediately after the game.

Watched that game with my mates in Slane that day. When MacAteer scored, the place went ballistic.

Galway were a puck of a ball and a corrupt cunt from Limerick away from doing the double that month.

That day, and September '01 in general will remain forever iconic.
