The Leinster teams definitely have an advantage with a couple of gimme games in there to rest lads/rotate/experiment etc.
The Munster teams have to go hell for leather, then possibly face a Munster final, the loser of that has a quarter final, possible semi final and possible final. 8 tough games is a fairly brutal, energy sapping exercise.
When our C Team was cantering to a highly coveted Co-Op Superstores Munster Hurling Cup title back in January, I needed no grass. The three-in-a-row was inevitable.
Look at the ease with which Bennett goes around Tim OâMahony here. Thereâs more pace in a camel. Thereâs no way Bennett will get that level of opportunity against Byrnes, Hannon or D Morrissey.
Corkâs issue are their six backs. They are shipping massive scores in most games. As someone else said, they donât know how to defend. Nobody doubting their scoring potential at the other end but they will have to address the white elephant in the room before they win any All Ireland.
Exactly. Weâre going on previous seasons form. Thatâs no garauntee. We can only go on what weâve seen so far this season. Waterford have been magnificent. On the evidence in front of us, Waterford should be considered worthy favourites for the All Ireland. Theyâve earned it.
Youâd be a fool as things stand to back against them.
Last year I poked fun that all we wanted was a decent contender. It appears we may get what I asked for and more.
Fucking bring it on. Championship around the corner
Thereâs no long grass as far as Limerick are concerned. They are the best squad in the country and will be favourites in every game they play this year. It will take a super effort from either Waterford or Galway to dethrone them. Pay no heed to the league, youâll see the real Limerick in action on Easter Sunday. As a Limerick man I am quietly confident in Kiely & Kinnerk to have them right for the Championship.
I thought Bennettâs second goal last night was almost a carbon copy of the one he scored against KK in the semi in 20. Practically walked it into the net. Heâd be stopped legally/illegally by the Limerick defense long before he gets within shooting range. Thatâs the difference
For what itâs worth, I think thereâs a lot in what was said above about possibly playing Waterford 3 times this year. Now they are due a win against us. They were close to us in the Munster Final in 2020 and in last yearâs Semi Final they matched us head on for 20 minutes. Theyâve improved further since on all known evidence. Therefore, chances are they are due a win against us. Limerick donât need to beat them in the TUSGG, we need to be beating them in Croke Park.
I think Limerick will beat Cork in 2 weeks time. Itâll be close as Limerick will not be firing on all cylinders but I think weâll do enough, similar to the Munster Semi Final last year
I think Waterford will turn us over in the TUSGG in Rd 2. Theyâll wallop Tipp in Walsh Park and are flying it. We wonât have closed the gap to them enough by then.
I think weâll beat Tipp. Handy enough.
Clare will be a dogfight in Ennis but weâll come through it
Thatâll probably put us into a Munster Final v Waterford.
Iâd say if you could ask Kiely what his ideal scenario would be now heâd snap your hand at the wrist to finish 3rd, avoid playing Waterford a second time, build momentum through the qualifier and quarter final a lĂĄ 2018 knowing full well itâll be Waterford theyâll be facing for 3 in a row
I love Waterfordâs desire for goals from anywhere on the pitch, makes them really exciting to watch. That Bennett goal against Kilkenny is probably the best example but Hutchinson against Tipp last year is another one, where the likes of Barron & Jack Prendergast just have goal on their mind way out the field, itâs class.
Limerick get lots of praise for their performances in general but their defending against a really good goalscoring side like Waterford last year possibly went a little bit under the radar. Maybe because it wasnât overly flashy defending, it was just really patient, really smart, very little diving in, backing off when they had to- forcing Waterford to take shots from positions they wouldnât really want to, and Quaid makes the saves look easy then.
It was an absolute masterclass in defensive play. But Iâm sure Waterford will conjure up something else this year, itâll be very interesting.
I agree, I love watching Waterford, every time the ball passes the middle of the pitch thereâs an opportunity for a goal with them, itâs ruthless stuff
I may well end up with egg all over my face for this very soon but I think the current management are a busted flush already. Theyâve brought the team so far and deserve some credit, but as @Julio_Geordio said, they donât seem to have learned any lessons since last year. As I said in another post, itâs all the same problems and questions in the team and there doesnât seem to have been any attempt to address them. Are they even aware of them? All the same questions about Lehane, Coleman, ball winners, defenders are there and they donât seem to have done anything different to try to address them. Maybe they just think that if cork click they can outscore anyone in a shootout but that just shows the management up as well as thatâs not really realistic either. Still think they will qualify from Munster.
