Thats a great interview with James McCarthy in the Ballymun Kickhams Clubhouse.

There’s a real raw/unfiltered way about him.

He’s an engaging character. Says it like he sees it. Seems very comfortable in his own skin.

I see the Sunday paper review is back for free on podcast apps

Probably one of the least image conscious fellas you’d see with such a high profile.

You wouldnt see him modelling Bennetti Suits or Tommy Bowe shirts.

I started it in the car yesterday, thinking I’d turn it off after 10 minutes, but now I’m 50 minutes in and planning to finish it later. He comes across as a sound fella, no airs or graces.

Paddy Andrews, who I usually don’t mind, was driving me mad by constantly interrupting and talking about himself. Fuck off Paddy & let the man speak.

Enjoyed the one about the time that gangster Ricky Nixon wanted to bring McCarthy and Andrews to AFL.

Gilroy ringing up Andrews and saying, ’ whatever about James, why are they after you Paddy, you’d be brutal at that game’ :grinning:

Why wouldn’t he I suppose, big, charismatic, successful, good looking bastard.

Eh, thats all Andrews ever does?! How has it not bothered you before now!??!!

Fuck off.

Sorry Paddy, you were a great corner back.

Earwig oh

+1 on all of the above. Paddy likes to paint a picture of how integral he (himself) was in it all. Although to be fair he did have a few very solid seasons under Jim Gavin. But he was always the 12th-15th best player on the team. McCarthy comes across well. An unassuming kind of fella who clearly loves football. Hopefully he can win another one with Ballymun. Although it feels like time may be against them.

Mccarthy turned up at a corporate Q&A that I was invited to. So did James Ryan. Even the rugger heads at it thought that Ryan came across as a weirdo/cunt while the consensus was that McCarthy was a gentleman.

Jeez thats a surprise that a dyed in the wool for gael like yourself would supply an anecdote like this

Just throwing it out there. No need to circle the wagon.
