Saw this picture in the paper the other day, it’s from Gary Caldwell’s Scottish debut. Trezeguet taunting him after the 4th goal in a 5-0 defeat in 2002.

The bhoy Caldwell got his revenge last night.

Just goes to show what can happen when you play with cohesion, structure and organisation. Steve Staunton is now our Berti Vogts. Fair play to Scotland though.

Wales are possibly even worse than us and don’t be guided by the 5 goals, Slovakia are actually rubbish too.

It’s actually got me thinking that Croke Park next February could be like the Millenium Stadium in Cardiff yesterday - half empty. Though following on from the article about Irish sport it’ll probably be packed to the rafters because all those annoying shapers will want to be able to boast that they were there that day.

Getting desperate here, replying to my own thread.

What do you lot make of the whole club versus international debate?

I must say I’m beginning to hate international weeks like this. Looking forward to the champions league games next week immensely and even the game on Saturday before that to see whether JVoH will be fit and if Maloney will be accomodated.

Maybe if we had a proper international set up I’d feel differently. I actually always wanted to go watch Ireland at a major tournament but now I’m struggling to give a shit at all. The most entertaining thing about Wednesday is likely to be the studio debate.

Also, more and more clubs are suffering with players getting injured on international duty and the shit’s going to hit the fan sooner rather than later. Freddie Sheppard has been trying to get money out of the FA for Michael Owen’s injury. I see Benitez is raging today about a knock Kuyt picked up. I’ll be a bit pissed off too if Jan is out of the Benfica game. He’s missed the last 2 'tic games yet was still released to the Dutch squad where he aggravated his ankle in training.

Yes, imo the club definitely comes first especially when you have cnuts not even trying when playing for their country.

I read the Kuyt story and thought “typical big club, no time for international teams - arrogant pricks” but I have to admit I wasn’t happy about JVoH being injured. The difference is JVoH was injured when he joined up with the Dutch, Kuyt wasn’t. I can be pissed off if a guy who is unfit goes off to his country and gets worse, but if he just gets injured in training or a match well then that’s football. I do agree that it will all change soon though, for the worse IMO. Everyone always likes to complain about FIFA but they’re the only people stopping G14 from owning football at the moment and the longer and more powerfully they resist the better.

Very easy to get disillusioned with Ireland at the moment but I think if we had a half decent chance of qualifying I’d be dying to go to the tournament. That said I chose not to go to Stuttgart this year, preferring to spend all my cash on Celtic.

Its been on the news at 1 that McGeadys out with an ankle injury and is gone to hospital to have it x-rayed. There are some reports that he suffered a blackout but now it seems certain that its an ankle injury. The blackout stuff has me wondering whether theres a link, maybe its a break and he collapsed with the agony. This doesnt sound good at all. Stupid fooking international games with a stupid, thick, fooking excuse for a manager running stupid, thick fooking training sessions.

Yeah, seems to be more precautionary at this stage. At least Celtic have Maloney and Riordan who could come in but when Aidens been playing this well you dont want him to miss out.

Can anyone post all the odds for the games tomorrow? A copy and paste from Paddy Power or wherever? No access here.
