She gave it her all, calling her pitiful is a bit mean.
I hadnāt really seen his previous interviews but I wouldnāt be putting him on the spectrum going off that. He comes across quite witty and personable there
David Gillick is very good
Waterpolo is crying out for the backdoor cut fistpass to the goal
I suppose the Europeans have the European championships to fall back on. But yeah, it must be mental to throw it all on the line to place in a heat
Gillick is excellent.
Just seen the interview with the girls. Such brilliant energy from them. Interesting how they talk about the importance of being ahead at 200m so the next runner has the inside line for the handover. Very tactically smart
Spectrumers can be witty too. Itās a spectrum.
Heās a great aul character. Hopefully some of the Olympians can become big stars off the back of this. Ireland has very few recognisable sports stars really and hasnāt for years. Iām struggling to think of 3 who every kid could name or be excited to meet. None of our soccer players really, Sexton in rugby?, mcilroy? Especially true if you donāt come from a strong gaa county.
Je suis un Athletix now
Je suis also a bit mugged off at ā¬45 for a polyester tee but sure howās and ever
Enjoy
Enjoy
The McKeevers are flat out the last few weeks
We could surely be good at waterpolo. The fucking state of it
I can think of one but I donāt think youād want your children to meet him.
McIlroy is a world star.
Adeleke is a bigger domestic star than anybody from the major team sports. So is Kellie Harrington. Katie Taylor is still a fairly big star.
Individual sports create bigger āstarsā than team sports unless somebody in a team sport is world class and exceptional.
On an individual level nobody from association football, GAA or rugby would be in our top six or seven most recognisable sportspeople.
Gillick just gets it because he did it. The athletes heās interviewing know this too and know theyāre not going to be asked a stupid question, although he does seem to have a stock one about the support in the stadium. Heās picked up some good, high-profile non-Irish interviews also so heās obviously well respected.
Very physical game. Had the misfortune of playing/attempting it a couple of times and id barely be much more than a competent swimmer. Lot of unseen digging, kicking and fucking scratching of all things going on. Exhausting
Kellie adeleke and wiffen are now the biggest. Before this Olympics we had absolutely fuck all. Mcgregor, Sexton, maybe Taylor.
Team sport thing isnāt really true. In their day a load of soccer players would have been absolute household names. McGrath, packie, big mick, Quinn, keane x 2, duff, big jack.
I suppose soccer is the only thing with absolute universal appeal and were shite. The Liverpool sub goalie would be in our top ten
I think as time goes on journalists who didnāt actually play the sport at high level are going to get pushed further to the margins. Thereās enough ex athletes/players now who are articulate. Itās even happening a bit with presenters like lineker etc
I played it in the pool on holidays this year I was very good. Some incredible saves and assists. Although myself and a Dutch dad were the only two who could touch the bottom with our feet.
They were exceptional. They got us to World Cups. Thatās exceptional in an Irish context. We havenāt had a major association football star since Robbie Keane. The best known player weāve produced since then is James McClean and he is still the most nationally recognised currently active Irish team sportsperson.
Sexton is an ex-player. Jack was a manager. Managers are not team players, they are individuals. The best known figures in hurling and Gaelic football tend to be managers. Loughnane, Cody, Davy Fitzgerald, Jim Gavin Jim McGuinness, Mickey Harte, Sean Boylan, Mick OāDwyer. Household names, but the players they managed werenāt so much.
Wiffen would be a good below Adeleke, Harrington, Taylor or even Mageean, OāDonovan or Mawdsley in terms of being recognised nationally.
Is McGrory going out with Thomas Barr? (Iāve been doing some athletic research ahead of the final).
