You couldnāt develop a Keirin industry mate, because of bookmakers mate. Thatās the whole point that some of you thick fuckers donāt seem to get.
Keirin exists in Japan because of PARIMUTUEL betting. Just like horse racing and dog racing exist in just about every other part of the worldā¦. because they are self sustaining through parimutuel betting. If you bet of a Keirin race in Japan, part of that money goes into the prize money. Just like if you bet on a horse at Longchamp or Santa fucking Anita, part of the money you bet pays the prize money, ie the ātakeoutā, as the Yanks call it. No need for a government handout. Oireland doesnāt have that because people bet with bookmakers, who are leeches who donāt share any of the money with sports that are being bet on. So you would have no way to fund your Kerin, without a government hand out.
For decades Ireland tried to half arse solve this problem with a betting Levy, wherein the government acted as the conduit for the ātakeoutā, as it were. But then the cunts moved offshore and online to avoid that.
This could be solved very easily by legislation that allowed sports to own the betting rights, just like almost every other country does. The current Irish solution is a uniquely Oirish solution to a uniquely Oirish problem (I suppose not entirely unique in that the Brits do something similar).
Iām involved with one, Iāve just completed grant applications to fund more courses for throwing coaches
We have a few pre-teen/teen girls looking to move into throwing and we really want to facilitate them and hold onto them
Ireland has a ready made solution in The Tote that if properly utilized would heavily subsidise the industry. Problem is that hardly anyone goes racing anymore so anything to do with on-course turnover is going to be a small pie.
It has fuckall to do with on course or off course. The vast majority of the money bet on a race at Saratoga is not bet at the track in Saratoga. You donāt have to go to Longchamp to bet on the PMU, you can pop into one on the street, or do so online.
I assume the 4 yearly event junkies will be happy to increase their tax contribution to fund the missing hole in the economy that would appear if horse and greyhound racing were removed
