an amazing footballer
Some of the texts they read out on OTB tonight were priceless
"Paulie - you guided us through the depths of the recession, you were the light that helped us through the darkness, you gave security to those of us that felt vulnerable "
“Myself and the wife often share our thoughts on which celebrity we’d like to sleep with, just for fun obviously. She’d like to sleep with Paulie, I’d like to sleep with Nigella”
And one more time again. What a footballer.
That’s a difficult pass to make tbf. I think only a half dozen rugby players could execute that properly.
They should have a few statues of him in Limerick. He’s done enormous work for the city on a number of levels. A great ambassador
Only a player as good as him could have even caught that in the first place. The scrum half made a balls of it
He had the courage to step outside his comfort zone on the highest stage. A warrior.
Jaysus he put the Royals in their place here (assuming William heard him)
That’s a real quick wit on display there.
Paulie would be real quick witted.
It’s that everyday type of banter in the dressing that he will really miss.
I am not going to “like” that because it is sick.
Truly the end of an era. I saw him play in what was possibly his first ever senior match - for Young Munster against County Carlow at Oak Park in the opening game of the 2000/01 AIL season when he lined out at Number 8.
I was there as well to see him score a try on his international debut at Lansdowne Road in 2002.
Will we ever see his like again, lads?
I’m sure the marketing types will invent another hero.
Its admirable how the Irish media have handled this in such a quiet dignified manner.
It’s a shame he never played for a victorious Ireland team in a knock-out competitive match and lost the friendly series against South Africa when he captained the British Lions. He’s had his share of disappointments to cope with when you add that to the injury which ended his career.
ROG made the very good point that it was great that severe injury intervened and that he never got the chance to play for Toulon and thus could be hailed as the consummate one club man. That one club being Young Munster and Eh, Munster.
