Pavel Nedved

One of my favourite players, at one stage the greatest midfielder in the world.

I am absolutely certain that Juve would have won the CL in 2003 had Nedved been available for the final. He was the beating heart of that team and had scored huge goals against both Barca and Real in the quarters and semis respectively, Nedved wasn’t a guy who flitted in and out of games, he was a 90 minute talisman.

Extremely versatile too. Far superior player to the likes of Scholes

Robbed of a Euros medal too by a Micky Mouse of a Golden Goal. That was great Czech side back in them days. Inspirational

+1

The type of player who must have been a manager’s dream:

A wonderful player.

A true all rounder.

One of-the greatest games ever for me was lit up by Pav, holland 2-3 Czech in euro 2004. What a goal.
Absolutely no doubt his booking in 03 cost the old lady a champions league title

A poor man’s Patrik Berger.

Nah, Neved was a class apart in fairness. Wonderful to watch. A true talisman.

Used to run 5 miles before training every morning, lest his fitness slip. Probably inspired by Emil Zapotek.

It’s shisha pipes, fags and nitrous these days.

Very much a Czechoslovakian Ciaran McDonald.

I believe it was @Rocko who classed him as an average footballer

I didnt recall him putting it like that, so I did a quick search and I think you’re being disingenuous to @Rocko with that statement
Think we’re finally getting some real class players again.

No offence to Nedved but there was a real shortage in pure world class talent at the start of this decade. Owen wasn’t brilliant in 2001 and Ronaldo had a great world cup in 2002 but he’d played fuck all matches in two years just before then.

I’d have expected Zidane to have won it more than once.
Was there someone on here before who told a story about Nedved’s missus or girlfriend, I’m thinking @Thrawneen?

Nedved > Zidane

Don’t recall anything.

Nedved Fun Fact:

I think @Rocko will look back at that comment and admit it was a poorly made one. Totti, the greatest player of all time was in his zenit, bringing Italy to a European Championships final in 2000 and Roma to their first title in 20 odd years in 2001 . In 2000 Redondo walked all over every other midfielder that crossed his path as Madrid went on to win a Champions League. 2001 Rivaldo also was in supreme form, remember that hat trick against Valencia. In 2002 Milan signed Nesta as he became the most expensive defender in world football. From 2000-2003, Christian Vieri scored 64 goals in 75 Serie A games.

In the early 00s, world football was bulging with supreme world class talent, as strong as I can remember, the top players in the game today couldn’t hold a light to them. Nedved would have been in the top 10 at that time, no doubt.
