People who are beginning to give me a pain in the hole

Ger Brennan is from Dorset Street. Doesn’t get much more inner-city than that

Ballinteer wouldn’t be the poshest.

I lived in Dundrum for a few heads and there are unexpectedly a few right rough heads about that area.

Churchtown is posh though.

Yea that’s two and he wasn’t even on the 6 in a row team. The point stands that soccer is a far more working class sport than gaa all across the country. The most unusual thing is people will take offence to that being pointed out for some reason.

That’s certainly the case in cities and large towns with working class or deprived areas anyway, ruralites have the GAA and the local soccer club is generally looked down on as a winter pastime

The lack of space for gaa pitches between the two canals is why a lot of inner city dubs don’t play. I don’t know how Conor solves that one.

Would some Cork City GAA clubs not be largely working class? Glen Rovers, Na Piarsaigh and St Finbarrs always struck me as working class. In Waterford city, Ferrybank, De La Salle, Mount Sion, Roanmore, Erin’s Own and St Saviours are all solidly blue collar.

They are, but the areas that they pull from would have much higher soccer participation

Would there not have been a bit of prestige to Mount Sion feeding off the back of the school?

Ah shtop . Last three Dublin champs are Boden , Cuala and crokes . Na fianna in hurling .
These places are unrecognisable from 25 years ago, a whole new wave has engulfed them.

100%. And then The Rockies, Douglas and Nemo would have notions. And rightly so IMO.

The school was a rough and tumble place full of lads from the working class top of the town. It’s a Deis school now. Waterpark College was the Christian Brothers school for boys whose parents had notions and they played rugby.

Would the big three Cork city clubs have had many outsiders like Ringy or mostly local players?

Judging by their relative lack of success from 1990 onwards I assume they had a lot of country players before that.

Since the 70s Frank Cummins is the only superstar to join one of the big 3, lots of smaller names like Meyler and John Allen
Actually John Horgan switched from Passage at a young age

Christy Heffernan played a season with the Rockies

You’ll have to prove that one kid.
I don’t remember that.

And he worked all his life in Waterford City.

I saw him train and play for the Rockies, he was past his prime, I’d say it was 86 or 87
He wasn’t there in 85 anyway for the county win

Don’t know why he would have to prove it

It’s true

I’m questioning it kid.
It’s up to yourselves after that.

I remember that happening. No proof, but he played for the Rockies
