Heffernan won a club All-Ireland with his native Glenmore in beating Patrickswell in 1991, so he was still playing “past his best” 5 or 6 years later.
He was still playing county at that stage but I don’t think he was ever the same player after about 84 or 85, he was a wrecking ball in the early 80s,
He made very little impression on the games with the Rockies, I remember a game in the Pairc, probably his first championship game in Cork and he was very disappointing, a lot was expected I suppose.
He was very highly thought of in Cork, I think he had huge games on the 82 and 83 finals
I remember Donal Lenihan telling a story about bringing him into training with Cork Con for the craic a few times when he was down here
Not solid proof I know as there could be more than one C Heffernan but maybe you’ll take my word for it. I used to have an Irish newspaper archive subscription which is brilliant for this type of thing
It was 1986, maybe his heart wasn’t in it but he only scored 2 points in 4 championship appearances
Craig David. His Just Eat music is a dose…
From the horses mouth.
Yes 1986 just 1 year
The following year I returned to Glenmore and captained them to win our 1st ever Senior hurling championship
Happy new year @habanerocat
I said it was just the one year from the start,
It was an exciting pick up for the Rockies, he had broken Cork hearts a few times previously but he never performed for us
Text him back that @habanerocat he’ll be delighted to hear.
He wouldn’t need to be told, he was a great player, a real warrior but I doubt his heart was in it below
He played with Frank Cummins in Cork?
That man was made of iron

nearly at tight mouthed as the Derry wans ![]()
Frank and Ray Cimmins were real tough in a Vg Rockies team
Yeah, Frank was hard as nails, a superb reader of the game as well,
Met Eamon O Donoghue at a funeral the other day. An utter gent. Seems to nice to have been an IC hurler.
The derry wans are warrior poets, poet laureates and, at our worst, needy barrister witty social commentator types
Yomman (rhymes with common) is a gentle giant and has devoted his entire life to that club, for better or worse.
A human wrecking ball. Lined up Mossy Walsh (our then All Star) with a full frontal shoulder in a league semi final in Thurles in 1982. Left him in a crumpled heap. Mossy was never the better of it.
James Nesbitt.
