Definitely Ace of Base. I did think it was bass because of the musical connection but I checked it out ![]()
Fook this I have a tape or two of theirs at home, going to check this out and then say I’m right no matter what I discover
That was a harsh call because if anything Farmer was holding me back in work rather than it being the other way around. In the end I left despite having a vast quantity of untapped potential. I do regard myself as being quite a significant loss to the accounting profession and I hold Farmer partly responsible for this.
On reviews, I used to always get the same one when I accounted. They always said I did my own job efficiently enough but didn’t lead the teams I was in charge of well enough or co-ordinate the work among the team properly or review what they were handing up to senior managers. My take on it was that my own stuff was boring enough so I wasn’t going to put myself through reading the rubbish that someone like Farmer had typed up. I liked to give my ‘players’ freedom rather than forcing them to adapt to a rigid Sam Allardyce type regime where everything had to be cleared by me first.
Then I went to a financial department of a bank and immediately hated the role but ploughed away at it for 6 months. I was again told that I was working away grand and doing fine but if I really wanted to stand out and progress I’d have to, and I’m not making up the phrase, ‘ham it up’ and become very visible to the boss’ boss. Apparently it wasn’t sufficient to work away yourself and meet deadlines as they came, instead you had to randomly walk into his office and ask him questions you already knew to build up a rapport with him and to show/feign interest. This chap was an absolute cooont and I had no interest in metaphorically (or actually for that matter) licking his balls and so I decided to resign.
After a few months’ sojourn I then moved to the lending side in a different bank and I like it so far as there’s the variety of assessing loan applications, doing annual reviews including the report-writing and financial analysis as well as getting out and about and dealing with people. I had an informal review after 6-months which was positive enough and the questions on the sheet and the points my boss raised were all logical and relevant. Finally, I may actually have found somewhere that’s relatively decent and gives me unlimited access to tfk.
Jesus, life couldn’t be much better, maybe it’s tome I re-assessed the whole situation. I think there’s a desk move coming up soon though, and if I get a desk backing into a window there could be some serious internet abuse going on, even more than at present. No amount of hamming it up* would make up for that.
*despite not knowing what this means, I’ve decided to start using it if you don’t mind Bandage
I took ‘hamming it up’ to mean that I had to make myself seen and heard more around the office and get myself on the boss’ boss radar. Shit like that pisses me off - if he wants to assess whether someone is a good worker or not he simply has to review their output and/or talk to their line manager. Instead I was more or less informed that I’d have to prance up and down the floor and tokenly go in and out of his office for no apparent reason.
I reject Rocko’s statement on this thread. I never needed a kick up the backside in work, unlike Farmer for example.
I must admit I’m guilty of hamming it up at times. It gets boring being better than everyone in work though. Of course this comment is not directed at CaptShan, he knows what I’m referring too.
Could anyones foot actually reach that far.

I never said you needed a kick up the hole, my manager thought you did though but he wanted me to be the administrator of said disciplinary action.
Got that same rubbish myself bout putting my stamp on teams. Fook that, I knew I was working with good people (unlike Bandage [Farmer]) so there was no need to babysit. Think this was meant to inspire me to lead the team in my fourth year. Instead I was completely disillusioned and decided against a fourth year. Happy enough where I am now.
I worked for
Tried editing that but its taking to long.
I will say one thing though - the worst thing that ever happened to me was working with Bandage.
Good night.

Worse than when you pulled a floppy on a bird?
Because deep down you knew you had no grounds to be stern. To put it in nautical terms, I was the lifeboat in our team on a voyage through choppy seas.
I don’t think Farmer ever pulled a floppy on a bird either. I heard it was logistics.

Joke overload here. I’m leaving well enough alone
Obviously not spelling/grammar anyway.
I thought everyone has flopped at some stage - I know I have. Won’t be happening for a while though as I am getting some serious jelly-like substance at the weekend. Now I just need a bird
What?
