Yes or No? Good or Bad? Do they work?
Can they:
Get you bumped up the housing list?
Get you a job in the civil service?
Get the Tax Man off your back?
Free pints?
Grants?
Planning permission?
Improved road services?

Not sure about a job but there was a lad I used to work with who, if he needed a transfer/move, would get onto his TD before even mentioning it to HR

Politicians are first to inform you of any bit of good news that they may have had an input in.
Apart from that a unique kind of confidentiality agreement prevents me replying in greater detail.

A good politician is one who can swing a few favours. However as far as I can see the most of them are too thick or lazy to do them.
In Tipp, Lowry has an amazing reputation for them and in my opinion is the main reason for his high polling. You could be years asking any of the other gombeens to get something done. One call to Lowry and the problem was fixed in a matter of hours. I know of people this has worked for in getting their road done, getting to the top of hospital waiting lists and accessing 3rd level education. I don’t know how he does it but he is a man that has huge pull.
As a caveat I think he is a crook on the basis of his business dealings and only voted for him once as a 19 year old green horn.
This is the main one I’d say. Many dyed in the wool FF families have changed their vote to Lowry based on him getting a bed or something for a sick relative.
I missed that one. That’s an important one for sure. And a handy enough one to sort if you knew a girl in the office.
