Kilkenny College will win fuck all. The prods will bottle in the end.
Result from Donnybrook in today’s traditional “Old Firm” clash:
Blackrock College 15
Terenure College 17
A true Schools’ Cup classic, one for the anals of history. 'Rock missed a conversion to go level with three minutes left and then young Gavin Thornbury kinocked on with the line at his mercy with the last play of the game. The Williamstown academy were believed to have had one of their poorest ever XVs this year but every player who pulls on those famous hoops immediately grows at least three or four inches and so it proved. A much-fancied Terenure team with the offspring of both former All-black Mike Brewer and current Leinster coach Joe Schmidt on the park found themselves in a life or death battle to hold on. It looked like the whole team had caught a case of Brewer’s droop. Somehow, somehow, they clung on. And when a Terenure team is grievously wounded but survives in such fashion, you just know they’re going to take it out on somebody later on. On the pitch, of course.
Good to see the Irish under-20s hang on to beat Wales this evening. Some of these chaps were playing Schools’ Cup just last year. It was a pretty poor performance overall but the result was never in any real doubt and they held on with assurance. I’d put that down to the inbuilt sense of leadership and superiority that a private school education brings.
Gonzaga will be hard bet
Iv been providing some words of encouragement the last few sat mornings.

Big win for the Gick.
Msssive day in the Cup with a re-fixture and replay both currently in progress and I’m on tenterhooks waiting for updates.
CUS lead CBC 8-5 at Anglesea Road and we’re well into the second half of that one. 'Mon the Cuss.
St. Michael’s College HGF lead Cistercian College Roscrea 7-3 after 43 minutes at Maynooth. Excellent work from Michael’s despite the venue clearly being advantageous to Roscrea.
And the full time scores have just come in:
CBC Monkstown 13-16 CUS
St. Michael’s 7-3 Roscrea
A first quarter-final appearance for Leeson Street’s finest since the legendary 1998 team lost 46-0 to Blackrock at that stage.
Sounds like there must have been incredible tension at both venues.
More bad news for Tipp sport.
Poor loss for Monkstown to CUS. The heroes of 76 can live out on their stories for another year …
I can only imagine that the reason CBC persist with rugby is to attract a “better” class of student. They’ve (I won’t say “we’ve” because I fucking hate rugby) always been pretty fucking shit at it compared to the big schools like Blackrock etc who seem to nab all the best prospects on scholarships and so are obviously better in terms of personnel and have bigger budgets because their fees are WAY more so they’ve better preparation etc… Today is more proof of that.
If you don’t play rugby in CBC there’s little else to do. No soccer team or GAA; when I was there anyway. Which is a shame because when I was there there would’ve been a decent soccer team who I imagine would’ve been a lot more successful, relatively, that any of the JCT or SCT teams ever were, with the exception of the SCT who reached the semis, I think, in 2000. I loved CBC in general but absolutely hated this fixation on rugby. I was a decent soccer player when I went there but haven’t played a competitive match since I was 11.
Fucking rugby. What a shit game.
Thraw, if you haven’t played a competitive gam of football sinc your 11 it’s a bit much to be blaming the school, there I he’d loads of club about.
Agree with the general point though that schools should cater for as many sports as possible
A real super Saturday in the Northern Bank Ulster Schools Senior Cup with all eight fourth round games down for decision. Results very much along predictable lines. Ballyclare High edging out Royal School Armagh the only mild surprise.
Ballyclare High 15 - 11 Royal School Armagh
RBAI 33 - 5 Royal School Dungannon
Dalraida 5 - 11 Bangor Grammar
Coleraine 7 - 22 Ballymena Academy
Banbridge Academy 30 - 3 Cambridge Huose Grammar School
Wallace High School 17 - 10 Limavady Grammar
Campbell College 23 - 3 Grosvenor Grammar
Rainey Endowed 8 - 25 Methodist College
Quarter Final Draw
Wallace High School v Bangor Grammar
RBAI v Ballyclare High School
Methodist College v Banbridge Academy

Haen’t been follaeing the form up North but those are two impreesive results for Methody and Inst, the traditional blue bloods of the competition. Both will prove formidable obstacles to any other team winning it.
That’s bollocks. In my year there were 4 rugby teams. You only need the players from the As and Bs for your JCT or SCT panels. I’d imagine there’d be plenty of lads on the Cs and Ds (about 40 students) who’d have preferred to play soccer or GAA. The option should be there. Tennis, swimming, golf, athletics…these are no kind of options for a 13 year old lad.
And I did play for Dalkey United but I went from a primary school where we played soccer morning, both breaks, after school and maybe even the evening as well as with Dalkey to a school where no one kicked a football around. The training with Dalkey alone wasn’t sufficient and I lost interest, took up guitar instead. I don’t blame CBC but it was sad to go to a school and miss the (highly-competitive) kickabouts I had enjoyed up to then.
And on Blackrock winning everything, is it also not a fact that the top rugby schools offer scholarships to promising players? I never heard of CBC doing that in my time there. I’m sure they’d offer but the student would go elsewhere. I’d say that reason is more apt as to why CBC never win anything bar the Vinny Murray cup or whatever it is. It’s not a level playing field so why waste everyone’s time (I had to buy a jersey and attend two training sessions ffs) being middle of the pack and try some other fucking sport.
Ah well Thraw, Football’s loss was lovin’s gain.
Half-time in the first of this year’s S quarter-finals and it’s Clongowes Wood College SJ who lead Castleknock 17-3 at half-time. Magnificent stuff from Sebastian Fromm and Max McFarland in the backs in particular, the two speedsters combining for a picture try. However tragedy then struck for young Fromm when he was carried off with what looked like paralysis. I sincerely hope it won’t be a case of “You’ll Never Walk Alone” from now on for the young Liverpool fan.
Bad form Sid
No mate he actually played very well, in fact his fromm was very good. He’s only concussed anyway. Clongowes went on to have an easy 34-8 victory. The spine of that team is incredibly strong, led by captain Ed Byrne, who by all accounts is an absolute stand up guy.
Sorry you misunderstood.
I meant you are in bad form, those puns are brutal
