***Prediction League***

On the left hand side under the “main menu” section I’ve created a new link for a prediction league. I’ve put up next week’s EPL fixtures as a trial run. Go through the fixtures and click on the results you are expecting. It’s 2 points for each correct answer, an extra 3 for getting everything right and -1 for not guessing at all.

If you can’t get in - if it says that you don’t have access and to contact the administrator - then post a message on this thread or send me a PM and I’ll update it.

Trial run this week with the EPL games (from Saturday until Monday) but thinking about adding a monetary element to it from next week on. Instead of giving all our money to the bookies every weekend we can put 5 each onto this and allow the competition to run for 4 weeks at a time say and the winner will take home the pot.

Any thoughts on how to improve the competition by making if fairer/more interesting post them here.

By the way don’t worry about the league table part for the teams - that won’t apply obviously because we’re starting the league mid-EPL season.

idiot

Thanks for the input Ballox. Has anyone done their predictions and were there any problems with it? Trying to figure out if I set everything up correctly.

Great idea. If you enter a monetary element someone is going to have to act as banker. Everyone who enters their predictions could send the money via banking online to Rocko(20 for the month). Will make the EPL a bit interesting at least.

Yeah I can setup a paypal account so everyone lodges money there - say 20 euro a month. Then the winner takes home the funds at the end. Should be decent if we get a few people to join and keeps some money among ourselves rather than with the bookies.

Just gonna have a look at it now.

pagey, who’s in your avatar? Is it King Kenny? Looking for a Naylor one myself.

Yeh thats King Kenny. It is from before he got his first goal, just haven’t had time to change it since!!Want to get one of him doing his goal celebration. What a cracking celebration.

rocko, can’t get into the prediction league thing. Agreed it’s a good idea and could potentially increase our (fairly) static membership levels.

Can you be more specific? What’s it saying?

What does the Double up thing at the bottom of the predictions mean? Also you just have to predict the result yeah, no bonus for maybe getting the scores right also? Do you get the extra 3 points for getting all the predictions correct, means not many people will get that as it’s unlikely even the best participant will get all the results?

Good questions Jack - it’s very much a trial run this week but I take your points.

  1. The double up thing is that for one week of your 4 you can opt for double points to count. So if you’re feeling lucky you can go for a double up whichever week you want. I’m not sure it’s a useful or fair feature so might get rid of it when the time comes - whatever people think.

  2. It’s just the result, not the score. The program I’m using was originally written for rugby league in Australia so it didn’t even have the draw as an option so it’s just been modified a bit but no scores have been included and it’s beyond my capabilities to alter it that much.

  3. The extra 3 points is for getting all the predictions right so I think you’re right - there’s not much point to it because nobody will get all 10 right. Again might do away with it.

How dis this go? I forgot to do it in the end.

Ah about 3 people did it. I got 20 points (really 10 but I used the double up option) and others got 11. Forgot to change a few settings which meant people who didn’t play got 8 points but that can all be ironed out.

Should get it organised properly with cash for next time out, I just need to setup a secure payment method for everyone.

I think the best way forward would be for people to get familiar with how to do it for a week or so and start it proper from say 1 January 2007 and between now and month-end do a cash collection.

Yeah I’ll put up the weekend’s fixtures this afternoon and we can start properly from 2007. I’ll put up a paypal link for cash collection so people can pay by credit card if they want.
