This shite about abandoning the Seanad is a real problem I think. Reform it by all means (and it has to be reformed) and get some fresh voices in there but Shane Ross can take credit for exposing financial corruption in this country. Doing away with the only forum that facilitated a radical voice is not the solution.
Lad from amarach touched on a key point there. The 35~45s who are the engine room of the economy and are the highest earners and spenders are completely fucked by their mortgages and are going to be murdered with tax. This is going to get very ugly
Some amount of contempt in that laughter,
I’m half expecting the audience to begin advancing towards him while laughing maniacially and collectively plummel him slowly to death before the show is out.
It’s ok tinnion it has long been established that I’m the premier economist on here. Presume Farmer will also be posting to say he was badly wrong too.
I strongly suspect that Merkel knew what she was doing with that kite she flew last week. The run on capital was probably based on rumours from Old Europe too. The Germans have no interest in the EU either. It’s every country for themselves. I’d say the German banks are holding flaky bonds all over the shop.
But we have noone to blame but ourselves. From that night in Sept 2008 the corrupt 4 should have been temporarily nationalised. How could they have believed the likes of Sean Fitz and AIB? A functioning bank should have been established with all performing loans. NAMA to take the rest of the shit. That action would have had the bondholders shitting themselves. If Danish banks can burn bondholders with EU approval there was no reason Ireland had to pay up. A pity people with backbone weren’t involved in making the decisions.
