I like him as he’s a proud son of the Faythe Harriers. Also, came across and gave up his time to publicise the Pikeman Challenge for the club a few weeks back. Good man Dermot!
This was the picture released to the media of Dermot and former inter county star Nicky Lambert at the launch of the Pikeman challenge.
Ooooh harsh! I remember we were playing Oulart in the U-16 county final in 1995 and it was on in St Patrick’s Park in Enniscorthy on a Saturday afternoon. Anyway, we were having our last training session on the Thursday night before the game and the selectors took Nicky Lambert aside on his own to plead with him not to go out and get pissed on the Friday night before the game. Nicky stayed sober and we won the title! Was just speaking to Bandage Senior about him at the weekend and told me Nicky’s retired from all GAA activity now.

My lasting memory of Nicky will always be the Tommy Murphy game against Longford in Wexford Park in 2005 (I think). Nicky was picked to start at midfield but 10 mins before kickoff was nowhere to be found. He turned up 15 mins into the second half in his work clothes (covered in paint and plaster) and was nearly togging out on the sideline until Ger Harrington basically told him to just go home cos the game was nearly over.
