Hoping to go to Russia and some of the Baltic States next summer. My passport expires mid July. I believe the granting of a visa to Russia is far from straightforward and was wondering how far in advance you could purchase a new passport and when would it be valid from? Any help or reference to websites gratefully received.

If your passport exires in July you should change it anyway six months before expiry date. Therefore you should send your application in now given the delay in processing applications.
