Best compilation album of all time and the best song on it.

Very underrated song.

Jesus, Iā€™d say there isnā€™t a person alive who knows that song doesnā€™t think itā€™s great

In the overall scheme of things it is not noted as a top REM song.

Thatā€™s a very high bar and snobs will always pick stuff from the 80s, itā€™s a great song

Itā€™s a great song but any proper discussion about great REM songs would not normally include it. It probably wouldnā€™t be in the discussion for top 20 popular songs or best songs of the Warners era (and the true REM snobs will tell you the IRS era was far superior)

The IRS era was far superior.

By a country (feedback*) mile pal.

*I appreciate that particular song is from the Warner era

Agree with IRS but aftp is my favorite album and canā€™t see it changing. Murmur is my second .

I think Green is a terrific album. Thatā€™s their first with Warners.

What would the top 5 generally include?

Top 5 albums?

Ah each to their own but Iā€™d have Murmur, Lifeā€™s Rich Pageant, Reckoning from IRS era. Iā€™d still probably include AFTP and New Adventures but all five would be personal picks (Fables a very close call).

World Leader Pretend and You Are The Everything are exceptional songs. Hairshirt too. Orange Crush is a banger.

Tracks like Get Up and Pop Song 89 arenā€™t as strong and Stand kind of stinks.

Mike Mills made a remark in an interview that when fans would tell the band their favourite R.E.M. album it typically coincided with when they were in the first couple of years of college. An interesting observation and certainly resonates with my own experience.

Unfortunately they released Reveal when I was in college
