Two more from my old bookmarks.
Heās laughing with another girl
And playing with another heart
Placing high stakes making hearts ache
Heās loved in seven languages
Diamond nights and ruby lights high in the sky
Heaven help him when he falls
Diamond life, lover boy
We move in space with minimum waste and maximum joy
City lights and business nights
When you require streetcar desire for higher heights
No place for beginners or sensitive hearts
When sentiment is left to chance
No place to be ending but somewhere to start
You make any progress on this? I havenāt the foggiest I must confess.
Sure how could you? The song in question has been identified and it is nothing like either description given to me above! Its an old clancy bros tune, the good ship calibar. Itāll be learnt sharply.
Ta for the help @habanerocat
Ffs.
Ill pass your dissatisfaction on to the corncerned parties.
Iām glad you found your song.
I remember being away in a hotel in Cork one weekend and an older crowd were having a sing song in the bar on the Sunday evening. A fella sang a song which Iād never heard before, and sang it absolutely beautifully.
I had to go look it up afterwards and it was My Love is Tall Ship by Jimmy Crowley. Iāve never heard it since bar playing it myself on Spotify.
You can have it all, but how much do you want it?
My body feels young but my mind is very old.
For the night thatās in it ā¦
*That Arizona sky burninā in your eyes *
*You look at me and, babe, I wanna catch on fire *
*Itās buried in my soul like California gold *
You found the light in me that I couldnāt find.
Beautiful.
On the first day of March it was raining
It was raining worst than anything that I have ever seen
I drank ten pints of beer and I cursed all the people there
And I wished that all this rain would stop falling down on me.
And Iām heading for the cokeys, I will tell 'em 'bout it all
About the gall of Fine Gael and the fail of Fianna FƔil
And now the flowers read like broadsheets, every young man wants to die
Say it to the man who profits, and the bastard walks by
Why say words that I do not mean
They only serve to amuse, ridicule and destroy,
Hardly ever to teach
I hit you for the first time today
I didnāt mean it
It just happened
You wouldnāt let me go to the phone,
You wanted to make love and I did not
Now I know the distance between us
Christ we werenāt even fighting, I was just annoyed
Silence and you started to cry, that really hurt
You said, yeah and you thought you knew me
He pulls a prayer book out of his sleeping bag
Preacher lights up a butt and he takes a drag
Waiting for when the last shall be first and the first shall be last
In a cardboard box 'neath the underpass
You got a one-way ticket to the promised land
You got a hole in your belly and a gun in your hand
Sleeping on a pillow of solid rock
Bathing in the city aqueduct
Probably one for the misogamy thread but Dougie MacLean has changed the lyrics of Caledonia from:
I have moved and Iāve kept on moving, proved the points that I needed proving
Lost the friends that I needed losing, found others on the way
I have kissed the ladies and left them crying, stolen dreams, yes thereās no denying
I have travelled hard, sometimes with conscience flying somewhere with the wind
To:
I have moved and Iāve kept on moving, proved the points that I needed proving
Lost the friends that I needed losing, found others on the way
Oh and I have tried and kept on trying, stolen dreams yes thereās no denying
I have travelled far with conscience flying somewhere with the wind
Yeah, when that fog horn blows
I will be coming home
Yeah, when that fog horn blows
I wanna hear it
I donāt have to fear it
And I wanna rock your gypsy soul!!
Magic!!
His best tune the mad bastard.
Fade out again
Immerse your soul in love
