Re: GAA Next Weekend

and all of these play with 4 scoring forwards “these days”

This whole Leinster inferiority rubbish comes from Brolly and the likes. I hate those ‘analysts’ with a vengence

Exactly Farmer. It’s people trying to justify their role on television by suggesting that there is some great importance to the geography of where your county is.

There is a distinct lack of proper tactical discussion on GAA matches, especially football on RT. They’re obviously trying to copy the soccer and rugby formula but they’ve ended up just imitating the soundbites and judgementalism of those analysts without any of the concrete discussions that underpin what they’re saying.

So it’s useless to just start off on a rant about “if Tyrone win the All Ireland with Brian Dooher in the team I’ll eat my hat” as Colm O’Rourke said. There was no discussion of what Dooher was doing wrong, how he might be disruptive to a successful team etc. And so it was pure nonsense. Just a controversial statement to get attention.

Dunphy, Giles and Brady are often controversial but they back it up with proper analysis of the game they’re watching. We never see that in the GAA coverage - it’s just show some of the best scores, maybe show a bad wide from the team that’s losing, and then say that one team are hopeless and one team are excellent today but wait until they come up against an Ulster team.

Exalted you there Rock

You’re spot on - even if you are a rubbish manager

So does anyone want this ticket?

I don’t want to be out of pocket cos of farmer’s indecision.

if a Leinster team wins the All Ireland this year, I’ll eat my hat !!!

I have other tickets that I tried to worm my way out of Bandge but I think I’m compelled to take them.

CAC turned down the Cork players’ appeals last night.

Not sure if they’re going to the DRA or not.

Again, this system is completely unsatisfactory.

It’s taken 3 weeks to get through 2 of the 3 possible appeal avenues.

So what hope if there’s an incident when the qualifiers are up and running and a team is due to play 6/7 days later that a player will be able to proceed through all his options? Fook all hope that’s what. We’ll probably have another Forde type case where a player is banned on the morning of a game leaving him with no time to go and appeal it.

It’s complete and utter bollox.

Some entertainment tonight - exhausting just to watch it. Both teams should take a bow. Ollie Moran dragged Limerick back into it in the second half along with Brian Geary, a player who’s maligned at times but fook did he deliver tonight. You’d think Tipp would be able to put a team away with a 10 point half time lead though. Great fun watching Richie Bennis haring and leaping around the place at the end like a p**sed grandfather at a wedding.

Getting a little bit wet thinking of the game tomorrow. The Wexford footballers have given us some superb displays in recent years and I hope they can progress to a provincial final this year. Generally more pumped up for our football games than hurling so I can’t wait for this. It’s an utter disgrace that the Wexford County Board sent back 1,000 of our 4,000 ticket allocation. Best supporters in the country my fookin’ arse.

Have you specific pre- or post-match plans Bandage?

I’ll be having a couple of pre match pints up near the ground alright rocko. What’s your status? You interested in the first game/who you heading to the game with? piper better not be there.

I’m heading with a certain TG4 celebrity and some folks from work. I’ve to check with people tomorrow re plans for the first match but I’ll give you a PM at some stage so bring your laptop.

Yes, I’m definitely bringing my laptop with me. Those phones can be awful difficult to trawl around with you so I’ll private message you in the am from the laptop. I’ll probably be standing under a big tree typing away from about 1pm onwards if you get my drift.

Smelly and I are heading to the later game, so let us know where you are after.

How are any of us gonna be able to face Smelly after Wednesday night?

I know Tinnion was looking for a ticket but I presume he got one.

Seems like they went to the DRA last night and lost so at least that bit was done quickly enough.

Watching some of the Wexford Louth game here - the standard looks really bad

Yes, Louth were pathetic. It reminded me of their performance in the Tommy Murphy Cup Final last year when they destroyed Leitrim and they actually tried to bring it down to that level. Luckily we were on song and kicked 13 points from play, 10 in the first half. It was an extremely slick, attacking display of football by us and we avoided all attempts to bring it down to the kind of brawl sides like Louth, Carlow, Waterford and Leitrim enjoy.
