Itâs pointless complaining about the penalty it was given and thats it. When a keeper charges at a player he is always asking for trouble. Itâs easy to see why it was given, it was a soft penalty granted but those sort of incidents warrant a penalty
The whole point of a forum is to voice opinions. I know the penalty was given, however a few of us have said that it shouldnât have been awarded, but you seemed to think it should have because there was minimal contact. Iâve clarified the rule for you - do you still think it should have been a penalty? Note I am not asking you if you can see why it was given.
Regarding your second point, I agree Boruc was a little rash in rushing out from a tactical point of view. However âthose sort of incidents warrant a penaltyâ suggests that you believe that anytime a goalkeeper âcharges at a playerâ then a penalty should be awarded. Again I ask you to check the rules.
Hear hear. âThose sort of incidents warrant a penaltyâ is an utterly stupid statement.
Not a stupid statement but entirely true. We on this forum dont make the rules for football. He charged Giggs. Giggs made sure there was contact between them. Went down. Referee saw it. Penalty.
Iâm not the one who should read those rules again.
âcareless, reckless or using excessive forceâ
Boruc didnât use excessive force but he was careless.
And notice how the word âattemptsâ appears so frequently.
it would be careless to put your jersey on inside-out but you wouldnt give a penalty for it. you are twisting the rules flano; look at the nature of the rule and the nature of the incident
No intent/attempt by the keeper, he can be clearly seen trying to retreat from the challenge.
Surely, there is a rule against diving, id like to see the exact rule (rocko?) as giggs was most likely in breach of a rule

Are you now suggesting that Boruc attempted to trip Giggs? At the start of your post he is careless so it was an accident, now youâre arguing he attempted to do it?
With regard to the âcarelessâ comment, itâs not a penalty if he is just careless. He must be careless while commiting one of the offences listed below (i.e. kicking, tripping, jumping at an opponent etc.). Careless actions on their own like a rash decision to rush out, or a sloppy backpass or spilling water down the front of your shirt donât result in a foul.
The rule again to save anyone going back a page:
A direct free kick is awarded to the opposing team if a player commits any of the following six offences in a manner considered by the referee to be careless, reckless or using excessive force:
- kicks or attempts to kick an opponent
- trips or attempts to trip an opponent
- jumps at an opponent
- charges an opponent
- strikes or attempts to strike an opponent
- pushes an opponent
He charged at him in a careless fashion.
A sample of the atmosphere pre kick-off on Wednesday night:
Surely, there is a rule against diving, id like to see the exact rule (rocko?) as giggs was most likely in breach of a rule
A player is cautioned and shown the yellow card if he commits any of the following seven offences:
is guilty of unsporting behaviour.
shows dissent by word or action.
persistently infringes the Laws of the Game.
delays the restart of play
fails to respect the required distance when play is restarted with a corner kick, free kick or throw-in.
enters or re-enters the field of play without the refereeâs permission.
deliberately leaves the field of play without the refereeâs permission.
If play is stopped solely to deal with a misconduct (when no foul has been committed) by a player on the field of play, the proper restart is an indirect free kick taken from the location of the misconduct
there you go flano, on a plate Giggs was guilty of unsporting behaviour (as clearly he was not off balance, but went down as a result of feeling the contact)
the equitable treatment here is that a free out be given. even if rocko lets you have your argument for the penalty rules (re careless charge), Giggsâ unsporting behaviour would negate that and no penalty be given
Pictures of some freekickers on the huddleboard on the gig at the Irish centre thread. A smashing occasion it was too.
Just been catching up on the happenings on the hb this morning. It seems a few celts did have hassle in the home sections, the odd scuffle, a number of threats ? ?do you want some, you fenian bastard? etc, etc. A few bhoys were thrown out for celebrating the goals in the home sections. It was a cracking decision to swap our tickets (north stand) to get a move to the section behind the goal and below the Celtic supporters. It was about half and half in there and no problem wearing the hoops and getting behind the team. They hated YMWA obviously with retorts of ?scouse loving bastards? ? the fools - and responded by trying to do a version of the Billy Boys.
Equally there was some United supporters who were very sound. You get all sorts in any support I suppose. A few fights in pubs around the ground too with United fans storming the Celtic fans in the Trafford Bar and the Toll Gate near the ground. All in all an electric atmosphere and a cracking game.
P.S. That was never a penalty.
Some cracking photos and videos on the huddleboard. Absolutely gutted at not taking a point from that match as it was the least we deserved but it was a cracking day. As for the penalty I donât think it was one but Bourc shouldnât have given the Ref an excuse to give it. Giggs should be ashamed of himself. Still confident that will make it through.
Still confident pagey? Read on.
Mark Wilson out for 6 weeks with a broken metatarsal. The one player we couldn?t afford to get injured. I won?t be able to bear another 6 weeks of the telf. Caldwell to right back and Bobo back into the centre? Or change the formation completely even rather than playing the telf? Any decent youngsters able to play right back? This is a really bad blow ? clarkeycat should feel like the cat that got the cream now but I remain confident of collecting ?100 off him/her on December 7. It will come in handy as us boggers traditionally go christmas shopping on the 8th.
Paul Telfer and Lee Naylor - the worst full backs to grace the CL.
Did you see Aurelio the night before? Naylor was light years ahead of him and had an excellent game. Fair play to him, confounding the doubters with 3 cracking performances since signing.
Donât rate Aurelio myself but Lee Naylor? Get the fookâŚ
I remember him having the ball wide left in the 93rd minute and overcooking his cross thereby wasting Celticâs last chance to snatch a point. Wasnât the first time he whipped in a shit ball either.
He also whipped in a couple of quality crosses earlier on. Mickey Gray takes the biscuit for me.
What? You mean the two super balls he fizzed in between keeper and back four in the second half? If big Jan hadnât been fooked from murdering Rio and Wesley goals may very well have resulted. His direct opponent, Darren Fletcher, was hardly very effective. An excellent performance by the lad. You are citing that incident in the 93rd minute of a game where he was doubtful through injury beforehand. Instead of remembering that negative incident Iâd like to recall him haring up the wing and clattering Neville to force a throw in from which his poor cross resulted. His other poor cross was after about 70 minutes. Other than that the phrase âdidnât put a foot wrong springs to mind.â
Look at the state of the fook with âMillerâ on the back of his shirt and the other weirdo beside him with the messy hair. Theyâre the type that let down the rest of the Celtic support.
I forgot about the cops coming into the place and videoing us all. Just as Gary ?g was launching into âProvoâs Lullabyâ or something too I think. Quite surreal but funny the way everyone took out their phones and started videoing them back.
