Well it was nice to see them be being so offensive and aggressive, but they were out of their league (literally and figuratively).

Who? Celtic, or Lennon and the protestant community?

all of the above! and the ginger community in general
Why did Neil Lennon die his hair?
… To join the orange order, wha, ah ha ha ha. as if he wasnt enough of a protestant fooker already.
i cant believe that Celtic sold themselves out by playing a prodi like him. I mean the one thing that was good about the club (their catholicism) is gone. Sub zero
Well I was one of those fookers at the game last night. Agree with what most of sam has written there.
First of all no comments about a moral victory - gutted that we didn’t get something from that game cause United were brutal at the back. Scholes played well for them and Saha was always dangerous but other than that most of their players were very mediocre. Centre halves were roasted by Vennegoor of Hesselink - one example in the second half stood out when Boruc launched a high kick out. Brown stood there panicking underneath and he thought VofH was beside him so he didn’t jump. The ball just bounced straight in front of him and then VofH came steaming in and cleaned him out of it in the air.
Gravesen had a shocker for Celtic, but he was a bit unlucky and kept going at least. Boruc had a great game (other than the penalty, which shouldn’t have been one but he shouldn’t have given the ref a decision to make). Nakamura, VofH, Wilson and Lennon were excellent and Miller and Maloney both looked lively when they came on.
Overall United deserved to win on the basis of chances created possibly but they look very, very vulnerable at the back. We can take them at home.
The domestic leagues have nothing to do with last night. I’m not sure what point you are making but Celtic fans don’t console themselves with moral victories and the likes - maybe you’re confusing us with Ireland? United were at home, the top seeds and won. End of story. Other matches they have to play in other weeks are irrelevant. Any excuse to bash the SPL from the anglocentric brigade.
Moral victory? Out of their depth? When you go to a game expecting to win it and you lose that doesn’t count as a moral victory. I am absolutely gutted today. All 3 goals were gift wrapped; 1st was cheating but it’s part of the game and the next 2 came from Tommy Gravesen giving the ball away in his own half each time.
Strachan was spot on after the game - it was our flair players that let us down (if that’s the right use of words) but you can’t fault anyone for lack of effort. Lennon was simply sensational and rolled back the years with a Seville type performance and big Jan tore Ferdinand a new arsehole, one of the best displays from a lone frontman I’ve seen.
It was Gravesen, Jarosik and McGeady that didn’t really deliver. Was surprised Jarosik played and he was very lazy in the first half, just when he was coming into the game Miller was brought on - I would have started with him.
Saha was excellent for them and Scholes was very good breaking forward for the goals - he played the pass for each if I recall. Their back 4 was all over the place, we were right pinning our hopes on Jan after watching Spurs and Defoe winning headers against them last Saturday.
Strange it may seem after conceding 3 goals but thought our back 4 were fine. Wilson had a cracking first half. It was a shame he pulled his hamstring in the build up to the 3rd goal - that allowed Solskjaer in unchallenged for the rebound. Naylor was solid as were the two centre backs. As I say the goals came from our own mistakes, allowing them to break at us in numbers from inside our own half.
Delighted to see Maloney back, great little cameo from him (not sure he’d cut it in the EPL though) and Bobo will be back on Saturday. Thought we definitely deserved something from the game but the focus now has to be taking 6 points from the next 2 home games.
Not going to rise to the bait from earlier in the thread because if folk still doubt Celtic after last night then this fawning over the EPL attitude must be ingrained into them. As I said I expected Celtic to win last night. Man United had 6 or 7 England internationals playing and I don’t fear England. I’m not putting them down, I just think that Celtic are their equals.
Superb atmosphere by the way with Celtic taking over most parts of the ground.
Cracking post Bandage. Overwhelming feeling last night was disappointment, not pride.
The penalty was not cheating. Boruc took Giggs down plain and simple, if that was anywhere else on the pitch there would be no complaints over it being a free kick
Yes, pure disappointment but again can’t fault them for the effort they put in. I look forward to the return game in Glasgow, a game for which I have a ticket yet my employer will not allow me the time off. I am seriously considering quitting my job in order to attend the game. I’ll wait to see how the next few games go first though.
It certainly wasn’t “plain and simple” Flano. Giggs wasn’t tripped at all - he dived. There was minimal contact.
He didn’t take him down, he cheated, he dived. He was taken off suffering from the bends.
Where do we go from here?
The words are coming out all weird
Where are you now when I need you?
Alone on an aerplane
Falling asleep beside the window pane
My blood’ll thicken
I need to wash myself again to hide all the the dirt and pain
'Cause I’d be scared but there’s nothing underneath
Who are my real friends?
Have they all got the bends?
Am i really sinking this low?
Baby’s got the bends, oh no
We don’t have any real friends, no no no
Lying in a bar with my drip feed on
Talking to my girlfriend waiting for something to happen
I wish it was the sixties
I wish we could be happy
I wish, I wish, I wish that something would happen
Where do we go from here?
The planet is a gunboat in a sea of fear
And where are you?
Brought in the CIA
The tanks and the whole marines to blow me away
To blow me sky high
Baby’s got the bends
We don’t have any real friends
Lying in a bar with my drip feed on
Talking to my girlfriend waiting for something to happen
I wish it was the sixties
I wish we could be happy
I wish, I wish, I wish that something would happen
I want to live, breathe
I want to be part of the human race
I want to live, breathe
I want to be part of the human race
race, race, race
Where do we go from here?
The words are coming out all weird
Where are you now?
When I need you

By simply removing the word “minimal” from that sentence we get the reason why the penalty was given. There was contact
It was a dive. There was contact but not enough to warrant falling over like a fag. He had lost control of the ball. It shouldn’t have been a penalty. If it was any other area of the pitch it shouldn’t be a free kick either.
Im so shocked by the performance that i am going to support Rangers from now on. Up Protestants, ye dirty celtic cooonts
Ive always thought you were a Rangers fan Mr. Ball Ox ;D
Flano, you are a mong, and a humpity foooooooook
Ball Ox you are the mong and a prodi coont
It is a contact sport - contact is permitted when the ball is within playing distance. A foul is when:
A direct free kick is awarded to the opposing team if a player commits any of the following six offences in a manner considered by the referee to be careless, reckless or using excessive force:
Minimal contact does not equal excessive force. Care to revise your opinion?
Exactly.
Thanks for the exalt.
No not tripping myself up. The original post I was referring to was law’s where he mentioned Celtic’s ability to lift themselves up for once off games and admirably failing with United on the other hand facing competitive rough and tumble every week. The reality is that in playing Heart and Hibs already this season Celtic had more competitive games than United (Spurs only) coming into last night. That’s beside the point anyway, the CL is a totally different proposition as Liverpool coming 5th in their domestic league the season they won it testifies.
I find it amazing the bad wrap the SPL gets. I heard the commentators were mentioning stuff like Gravesen can get away with misplaced passes in the SPL but not against the likes of United. This is a guy who’s played one SPL game ever and made his name in the EPL but because he has a bad game the reason is because he plays in the SPL - figure that one out. Also, the old Celtic won’t be used to the pace and tempo United are playing at is another one often thrown out. Have these commentators ever seen an Old Firm game? Or watched them play at Tynecastle?
Celtic are well capable of matching the best Europe has to offer as victories in recent years over Juventus, Barcelona, Lyon, Stuttgart and Liverpool prove. People need to get over the blip last year against Bratislava and also their preconceived and stereotypical view of the team.
Anyone who thinks that was a penalty is deluding themselves by the way.
