Re: MP3/4 players

Had an ipod mini and a useless piece of shiiiiite it was. Battery was useless and constantly giving a screen that required me to look up ipod support web page. This required me to plug the ipod into i tunes every time it happened. One redeeming factor was the i trip which allowed me play it in the car. Presumably similar set up available for other systems as my ipod was lost in transit?

Yeah you can get an itrip type device for any mp3 player out there now pretty much. They’re only still in the process of making them legal in Ireland I think but you can get them in Dixon’s.

gracias rocko, the legal issue doesnt bother me but as a matter of interest why are such devices illegal? Is it a copyright issue? Or car safety? Or none of the above?

It’s a broadcasting frequency issue - like police scanners and walkie talkies and the likes.

Am an ipod man myself but they still piss me off no end. My first one broke after about 13 months so just outside waranty. Was a real pisser cause I had a fair few accessories for it and they weren’t compatable with the new ipod. Ended up doing some home repairs, bought a new hard drive online (upgrading from a 20GB to 30GB) for about $100 plus about 40 import duty and had myself a new ipod. Worked brilliant for about 6 months and now its playing up on me again and I think I’ll have to bite the bullet and get a new one.

Let me know how you get on with yours CC but I think I’ll probably end up going for another ipod despite all my troubles. Its just such a simple player and looks pretty slick too. Thinking I might go for one of the new nano’s this time as you can get up to 8GB and I think its flash memory which is harder to damage. 8GBs isn’t much but by triming out the shite from my collection I’m sure its plenty big enough. Any recommendations for the nano? I prefered the look of the old nano in black and white. The new one looks alot like the old ipod mini. Presume its a marketing thing to change the look. Next nano will probably be back to the look of the last.

I just don’t really like iPods so there’s not much point in me comparing the new Nano to the old Nano. I won a Nano a few months ago and gave it to the bird. She loves it and to be fair if I’m just messing with it I have no problems with it. The whole itunes business wrecks my head because I have an Archos player which just drags and drops folders to the player so my music is a mixture of MP3s WMAs etc. from various sources in Windows Media Player and then I have to convert the WMAs to MP3s to get them to work on the Nano for her which is head-wrecking.

That said there have been no problems with the player itself and I assume if you like iPods then it’s a good option.

One word of caution: I up/downgraded from a Creative Zen to a Creative Zen Micro a few years ago. I hated the Micro nearly immediately after I bought it. It was much smaller than the Zen (I had the original which was a beast) but it was small and finnicky and broke easily. IPods are a better build quality than that version of the Zen Micro but I’m not sure I would have been all that happy with the downgrade anyway. 8GB is decent but it is a step down.

Is that the one you won in a raffle at a table quiz and pretended you bought it for her birthday?

While the original plan was to do just that her mate was at said quiz and told her the good news so I had no option but to present it as a charming gift, unrelated to birthdays.

In my head though, I deducted 50 from the amount of money I was spending on her birthday.

Bumped to the top for a particularly stupid idiot who can’t use the search function.

My ipod broke a while ago,all songs wiped off when I tried to update it,so I rang the Itunes Customer Care Team, had a warrent untill the 3/12/06 and the date was 5/12/06 and they would’nt change it  So i bought a Song MP3 and its fantastic much better than Ipods.
