Only two fellas i recall names for were a Lynch and Nessan. The latter couldnt be that common a first name so stuck in memory.

It also left out the Brendan O’Donnell murders down in Clare.
That scared the shite of me at the time.
There was a savage manhunt for him in East Clare, everyone was locking their doors
He was a dangerously disturbed young lad. Left some trail of destruction after him.

This murder also sticks out because of the brutality of it, because it happened just after murders by O’Donnell and because the body was found in a boot in the car park of Athlone railway station.
The husband was convicted for soliciting to murder but he served just six years. Justice was never properly served in this case. The victim’s mother collapsed and died in the court.
Despite a prominent hurler having the same surname, this murder will always be the first thing that comes to mind hearing that surname.

I started full time employment post university in 2002 & was initially on a graduate programme for a few years so I feel (violins out) I didn’t truly get the full Celtic Tiger experience of being awash with cash (1995-2007). We all partied to the extent possible but I probably didn’t have the means to fully embrace it. Could forum elders confirm when exactly Ireland peaked within that c.12 year window?

1995 is a bit early to call the Tiger. It was 1997 when it started to roar. 1999-2000 was the best of it. Disposable income just exploded. Car sales increased by 35 per cent in 2000.
